THREE WAY TIE IN THE BAROSSA
Jason MacKenzie, Kapunda; Luke Wells, Tanunda and Sam Agars, Tanunda all tied on 14 votes on Monday night for the Schluter and Mail Medals for being judged the Fairest and Most Brilliant A-Grade Footballers playing in the Barossa, Light & Gawler Football Association during the 2012 season.
Jason also won the medal in 2001, while Sam was runner-up in 2010, three votes behind Angaston’s Craig Harvey.
Jason is the first Kapunda player to win it since Michael McCarthy in 2004 and it’s the 13th medal won by Kapunda and the 18th and 19th medals won by Tanunda. Tanunda’s last winner was Malcolm Greenwood in 2006.
Last year’s winner, Sam Walton of Willaston polled ten votes.
The winning score of 14 votes was the lowest winning tally since Matt Davoren won with 14 for Nuriootpa in 1986 and Jeff Gerlach, Nuriootpa and Lindsay Schmidt, Robertstown tied with 14 in 1977, the year that Angaston’s Tim Jackson won on the former countback rule but was ineligible.
