TWO WAY TIE IN WESTERN BORDER

The 2014 Brian Hennessy Medal for the best and fairest in the Western Border Football League medal count held yesterday resulted in a 2 way tie between Casterton/Sandford coach Dylan Ayton and North Gambier on-baller Richie O’Grady, both finishing on 20 votes. Ayton, who is in his 2nd year at Casterton spoke in glowing terms about the football he had encountered since his coaching began and looked forward to next year for his team which had finished in 4th spot. O’Grady who was unable to be present due to injury was previously a winner of this award in 2012 and his club are hopeful that he will be available to play in this week’s WB Grand Final. He has been at North Gambier since 2012 having been recruited from Glenelg in the SANFL where he had been a team-mate of current North Gambier coach Justin McConnell.

WHYALLA NEWS MEDAL WON BY SAM FLANEGAN

The North Whyalla midfielder finished on 27 votes, with team mate Josh Acklan second on 24. West ruckman Aaron Smith came third with 21, North's Ray McIntosh finished in fourth with 18, last year's medallist from Weeroona Bay James Gruitt finished on 17.

Jared Sampson of Central Eyre and Dale Montgomerie of West Coast Hawks tied on 42 votes apiece. In third place came Scott Feltus of Western Dists on 38.
