COOPER KICKS 25, BIG MARGINS RULE THE DAY
An amazing performance by Kingston’s Stuart Cooper was the headline of Round Eleven matches over the weekend. Cooper kicked 25 goals against the winless Kaniva/Leeor as they powered to a 236 point victory. The effort came on the back of a 18 goal haul the week before. Cooper, who kicked 151 goals last season, now has 74 for 2007, to move to the top of the goalkicking tally.
Penola maintained its hold on second spot with a 95 point win over Penola. The only downside of the win was a leg injury to forward Jamie Walker, who is just behind Cooper in the goalkicking with 66 for the season.
Keith stayed unbeaten after its 119 point thrashing of Lucindale. Tony Modra kicked ten while Jim West slotted through seven. Naracoorte could possibly threaten Keith in the finals, the Demons scoring a 71 point win over Bordertown which puts them in third spot on percentage. Kybybolite responded after its loss to Naracoorte last week, with a 123 point win over Padthaway. Scott Carberry kicked ten goals, Kyby now in the five on percentage ahead of Kingston and Mundulla.

KNTFL round eight review By Jake Dean
An in-form Kingston delivered Lucindale their first loss of the season, narrowly defeating the Roos by a goal. Nothing separated the two sides after the first quarter, but Lucindale looked the stronger side at half time after a seven goal to three second term. The Saints clawed their way back in the third to gain the lead by a solitary point heading in to the final quarter. The last quarter was a thriller, with Kingston coming out of the pressure cooker with their third win of the season. Morgan Trenaman and Casey Sharpe were instrumental in the win for the visitors with Stuart Cooper kicking six goals, and Simon Beggs booting five. Daniel Kuhndt and Alex Tregoweth were the Roos’ best with Philip Smith dominant up forward with six goals.
Lucindale’s loss leaves Keith clear at the top of the ladder after their thrashing of Border Districts. The Crows were simply too good, giving the Eagles no respite whatsoever in the 156 point win. Jim West and Jason Smith were unstoppable for the home side, but it was an all round team effort from the Crows with 13 individual goalkickers. Tony Modra and Jason Smith were the most destructive with five each. Patrick Wiggins and Stephen Pretlove were the Eagle’s best.
At Bordertown the Roosters enacted a stirring comeback over Kybybolite, winning their clash by four goals. The Tigers wouldn’t let Bordertown in for the first three quarters, keeping ahead by at least two goals at each change, but it was all Roosters in the last. Bordertown were able to pile on six unanswered goals in the final quarter; the Tigers only bothering the scorers with a single behind. Sam Devitt and Josh Barras (four goals) were key players for Bordertown with Clint Barras also kicking three. Best for Kybybolite were Lee Curnow and Ryan Woite, with Carberry kicking five goals and George Kidman bagging four.
It wasn’t a good day to be a Lions fan, with Padthaway going down at home to Penola by 171 points. Luke Ellis (four goals) and Jamie Walker were relentless for the Southern Eagles with Walker kicking a massive 13 goals. The haul sees him as one of the leading goalkickers statewide in 2007, with 50 goals. Padthaway’s best were Andrew Orton and Daniel Link.
Naracoorte posted a good win at home over Mundulla which sees them a win clear in fourth spot on the ladder. The Demons lead comfortably all day to run out 64 point winners over the Tigers. Nathan Smith and Brett Gould were best for Naracoorte with Gould kicking five goals and Jamie Dixon kicking four. Best for Mundulla were Lincoln Sharpe and Sam Excell.
This long weekend sees the KNTFL taking on the Southern Football League (SFL) in an interleague fixture. The match will pit the best players from both leagues against each other in a night game at Happy Valley Oval on Saturday. Seniors start at 6pm.

Round Six review By Jake Dean
Lucindale continued their unbeaten run with a 23 point win over Penola. Poor kicking cost the visitors dearly, with the Southern Eagles only having one less scoring shot than the victorious Roos – winning the last quarter Penola’s only consolation. Alex Tregoweth was best for the home side, with Nigel Fiegert a beacon up forward with eight goals. Nathan McDowell and Philip Smith kicked three each. Todd Russell and Simon Zadow were Penola’s best with Jamie Walker kicking six goals.
At Bordertown, the Roosters went down to Mundulla by 44 points. The Tigers started strongly with a five goal to zip first quarter and it didn’t look good for Bordertown. To the Rooster’s credit, they were able to put it to Mundulla in the second half but it was too little too late. Sam Excell and Lincoln Sharpe were best for the visitors with Nicky Davis impressive around the goals with six majors. For Bordertown, it was Nicholas Hampel and Matt Tober getting the votes.
Kybybolite were too good for Border Districts at Frances Oval, winning their clash by 65 points. The Eagles could only manage one goal after half time as the Tigers booted their way to their third win of the season. Ryan Woite and Tim Pannell were Kybybolite’s best players, with Carberry kicking six goals. Stephen Pretlove and Tom Ellis were valiant for the Tigers.
Kingston were no match for the unbeaten Keith, the Crows victorious by 72 points. It was another disappointing day for the Saints, who only last year narrowly missed out on a grand final berth. Jason Snadjar and Todd McShane were in fine form for the home side, with Tony Modra kicking seven goals and Snadjar bagging five. Shaun Watts and Casey Sharpe were Kingston’s best.
It was a whitewash over at Naracoorte, with the Demons defeating Kaniva Leeor by 179 points. The win sees the Demons move two spots up the ladder to fourth, while the Cougars still search for a win at the bottom. Brad Henderson and Zak Donnelly were best for Naracoorte, with Jamie Dixon continuing his stellar season with ten goals. Jarrod Krooks and Arthur Mock tried hard all day for the Cougars.
This Saturday sees some cracking games with Mundulla meeting Lucindale, Kingston playing Bordertown, Kybybolite taking on the high-flying Keith, the winless Kaniva Leeor and Padthaway looking to put one on the board, and genuine contenders Penola and Naracoorte locking horns. Border Districts have the bye.

KNTFL round five review By Jake Dean
It was a round of big scores and one-sided contests in the KNTFL last weekend, with only one game being decided by less than fifty points.
The clash between Kingston and Border Districts was the only one to go down to the wire, with the Eagles edging out the Saints by 15 points. It was a tight affair in the first half with only a goal separating the two sides at half time, but Kingston were able to kick away slightly in the third, going in to the last with a handy 13 point lead. It was all Border Districts in the last however, piling on five goals to Kingston’s one to register their third win of the season. Derrington and Rick Adams were impressive for the Saints, with Patrick Wiggins booting five goals, and Clinton Robinson and Michael Eagleton kicking three each. Shaun Watts and Simon Beggs stood tall for the home side, with Stuart Cooper kicking four goals, and Mark Peel with three.
At Mundulla the Keith juggernaut rolled on, defeating the Tigers by 57 points. It was the usual suspects that did the damage for the Crows, with Luke Skoblyk and Tom Redden getting the job done. Tony Modra kicked five goals in his first game for the year, and Jason Snadjar and Jim West were typically reliable with two goals apiece. Darren Wiese and Heath Thorpe were standouts for the Tigers with Sharpe kicking three goals and KNTFL leading goalkicker Luke Wiese booting two.
The only other team undefeated this year is Lucindale, who defeated K L United by 227 points. Nick Cane was best on ground for the Roos with five goals, but it was Nigel Fiegert who stole the limelight with a massive 17 goal haul – the most goals kicked statewide over the weekend. Shane McGuirk kicked six. Chris Tuckwell and Shane Dodson were best for the Cougars.
Naracoorte put their second win on the board with a solid showing against the Lions at Padthaway. The Lions were no match for the reigning premiers going down by 138 points, and still searching for their first win of the season. Mitch Hartree, Brett Gould and Matt Gill were unstoppable for the Demons, with James Dixon kicking nine goals, and Gould and Gill booting five each. Mark Edwards and Kieron Hicks were Padthaway’s best with Rhys Pahl kicking four goals, and Matt Lampard bagging three.
It was a similar story at Penola where the Southern Eagles defeated Bordertown by 127 points. The Roosters could only manage four goals for the match to Penola’s 24 and were kept goalless in the second and last quarters. The win leaves Penola still snapping at the heels of Keith and Lucindale in third spot on the ladder. Arney and Todd Russell were Penola’s best with Jamie Walker and Luke Ellis providing the firepower with six and four goals respectively. Ty Devitt and Nathan Tink did well for Bordertown.
This Saturday, Penola will see if they can serve Lucindale their first loss of the season, Naracoorte play Kaniva Leeor, Bordertown will meet Mundulla, Kingston will have their hands full with the unbeaten Keith, and Border Districts come up against Kybybolite. Padthaway have a week to lick their wounds with the bye.

KNTFL round four review By Jake Dean……..May 9 2007
Keith took the honours over Penola on the weekend, winning their highly anticipated clash by 33 points. The two sides sat undefeated at the top of the ladder but it was Keith who came out looking the stronger side with a five goal to one first term. The Crows extended the margin in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 46 point lead. To the Eagles credit, they were able to reverse the tide in the second half, winning the third and final quarters but the damage had been done. Jack Redden and Nick Hunt were best for the home side with Jason Snajdar kicking five goals, and Tom Redden booting four. Adam Wiese and Simon Zadow performed well for Penola, with Jamie Walker kicking six goals to take his season tally to 21.
Over at Frances Oval, Border Districts couldn’t match it with Mundulla, going down by 82 points. The Tigers lead comfortably at every change, but a third quarter fight back by the Eagles ensured that a win wasn’t completely out of reach. Mundulla pulled themselves together in the last however, and blew the Eagles out of the water scoring 11 goals to two. Jarrad Wiese and Heath Thorpe did the job for the Tigers with Luke Wiese adding 12 goals, to leave him top of the league goalkickers list with 27 majors. Thomas Bailey and Michael Eagleton were Border District’s best with Eagleton kicking five goals.
Kingston put their first win on the board with a solid showing against Kybybolite. The Saints never looked threatened and lead at every quarter, eventually running out 64 point winners. Stuart Cooper was best for Kingston with an impressive 13 goals. Casey Sharpe was another solid contributor. Alan McIntyre and J Jaensch were the Tiger’s best.
Lucindale continued their unbeaten run by crushing Padthaway by 144 points. The Roos piled on 12 unanswered goals in the first quarter and set the tone for the rest of the match. Nigel Fiegert and Philip Smith were unstoppable for Lucindale bagging eight goals apiece. Mark Edwards and Kieron Hicks tried hard all day for the Lions.
It was another one-sided affair at Bordertown where the Roosters took down the Cougars by 108 points. KL United kept themselves in the game in the first quarter, but the resistance ended there – the Roosters kicking away through the likes of Clint Barras, Bradley Simcock and Nicholas Hampell with four goals each. Josh Barras was also a standout. Shane Dodson and Arthur Mock were reliable as usual for the Cougars with Mock and Mark Crouch kicking two goals.
This Saturday will see Keith play Mundulla, Kaniva Leeor taking on the undefeated Lucindale, Padthaway playing Naracoorte coming off the bye, Bordertown meeting Penola, and Kingston facing off with Border Districts. Kybybolite has the bye.

KNTFL round three review by Jake Dean May 2, 2007
Keith showed their might against bottom placed K L United, beating the Cougars by 107 points and keeping the home side scoreless. The win sees the high-flying Crows sitting top of the ladder after three solid wins, while the cellar dwelling Cougars languish at the bottom. Tom Redden and Luke Skoblic were best for Keith, with Jim West kicking four goals and Paul Makin slotting three. Shane Dodson and Nathan Meyer were best for United.
Over at Mundulla it was a clash of the Tigers with Kybybolite winning by a commanding 73 points. Mundulla stayed with Kyby in the first quarter but they were simply too strong, kicking away in the next three. Ray Jaensch and Simon Bell were best for Kybybolite with league leading goalkicker S Carberry bagging five to take his season tally to 18. Darren Wiese was best for Mundulla with four goals, with Clarke and Jason Hillier also performing well.
Penola sent a message to the league with an imposing win over Border Districts. The visitors were no match for the Southern Eagles, going down by 141 points and ending their unbeaten run. At Naracoorte the Demons went down to Lucindale even after mounting a stunning comeback. The third quarter however, saw the Demons give their all, kicking eight goals to Lucindale’s one. Despite their momentum, Naracoorte couldn’t finish the job with the Roos hanging on for a 13 point win. The Demons were left ruing their poor start after their second narrow loss in three games. J Sellars and Michael Parker were best for Naracoorte, while Mark Snowball and Jason Zohs did the job for the Roos. Phil Smith kicked six goals.
It was a tight affair for the first half between Bordertown and Padthaway with only 11 points separating the two sides. The Roosters had all the answers in the second half however, kicking 14 goals to the Lion’s three. Tim Harkness and Nicholas Hampell were best for Bordertown with Clint Barras, Harkness and Ben McConnell the major goalkickers with six, five and four respectively. KNTFL round two review by Jake Dean
The clash between Kingston and Mundulla always promised to be fierce contest, with the Saints wanting to make amends after a first round loss to Penola, and the Tigers raring to go after the bye – and what a contest it was.
The two sides were neck and neck for the first half with Mundulla keeping a slight lead of a goal or less at each change. But it was the third quarter where things got really interesting.
The Saints kicked away in the premiership quarter with an impressive nine goals to three and looked set to run home with the win, but the Tigers weren’t done with yet.
It was a high-scoring shootout with Mark Peel kicking 11 for Kingston down one end, and Luke Wiese bagging 12 down the other end for Mundulla, which guaranteed the crowd on hand at Kingston oval, a nail-biting finish.
The last quarter saw an amazing comeback from the Tigers who reversed the tide to pile on eight goals to Kingston’s three and seal a five-point win at the final siren. It was a dream start for Mundulla, which leaves Kingston – last year’s preliminary finalists, still searching for a win at 0-2.
Luke Wiese and Jason Hillier were best for Mundulla, while Mark Peel and Morgan Trenaman were best for Kingston, with Simon Beggs kicking five goals.
Over at Kybybolite, the other Tigers put it to Penola but couldn’t catch up, going down by 16 points. The Southern Eagles started strong with a five goal to two first quarter but Kybybolite narrowed the lead in the second to be just two goals down. Penola put the foot back on the pedal in the third, kicking five goals to one which would prove decisive in the match. Kybybolite launched another comeback in the last, but the damage had been done, the Tigers going down by 16 points. Adam Merrett was best for Penola, while Luke Ellis and Jon Copping continued their good starts to the year with Copping also kicking four goals. Thomas Cooper, Tim Pannell and Ryan Woite were good for the home side with Pannell chipping in with three goals.
At Keith, the Crows continued their winning ways, beating Padthaway by a massive 175 points. The Lions were never a chance as Keith flexed their muscle from the start in a 13 goal to zero first quarter. Padthaway were able to salvage a couple of goals in the second quarter but their score didn’t change for the rest of the match, while the Crows piled on goals at the other end. Stone and Mark Keighly were best for Keith with Jason Snajdar kicking seven goals, and Jason Smith with five. Andrew Orton continued his good year for the Lions with a solid performance, and Sam Ward was also a good contributor.
Border Districts assured their place at the top of the table with a big win over Kaniva Leeor at Frances Oval. The first quarter was tight, with the Eagles hanging on to a narrow lead of eight points. They showed their class after the first change however, keeping the Cougars scoreless in the second and third quarters, all the while adding to their mounting goal tally. Kaniva Leeor managed to find one more goal in the last but it counted for little, with Border Districts winning by 125 points. Thomas Bailey and Greg Hamilton were best for the Eagles, with Nash kicking six goals. Shane Dodson and Arthur Mock performed well for the Cougars.
Naracoorte got their first win on the board with a comfortable victory over Bordertown, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Demons. Naracoorte came out strong to be up by 38 points at the first break. The Roosters turned it around in the second quarter though, kicking seven goals to the Demons’ two, to narrow the margin to eight points at half time. The resistance was short-lived, however with Bordertown only managing another three goals for the match to Naracoorte’s 13, the Demons running out 76 point winners. James Dixon was best for Naracoorte, booting 11 goals. Nathan Smith was also impressive. David Wurst and Josh Barras were standouts for the home side.
This weekend sees Mundulla play Kybybolite, Padthaway versus Bordertown, with both sides searching for their first win, Kaniva Leeor hosting the undefeated Keith, Penola facing Border Districts in a top of the table clash, and Lucindale coming off the bye to play Naracoorte. Kingston has the bye.

KNTFL round one review
By Jake Dean
Footy kicked off for the year in the KNTFL last Saturday with Keith defeating Naracoorte at home in the grand final rematch. The first quarter was hotly contested, with both sides kicking 4.2 apiece, but it was the second and third quarters where the Crows were able to forge a narrow lead. Keith held off the Demons in the last to edge out the reigning premiers by 13 points. Luke Skoblic and Paul Makin were best for Keith while Matt Gill and Tom Prebble performed well for the home side.
Over at Lucindale, the Roos were too good for the Bordertown Roosters recording a six goal win. Snowball and Kuhndt were Lucindale’s best with Lane chipping in with 4 goals. Stuart Barbary and Shane Orrock were best for Bordertown.
A one-sided first quarter set the scene in Penola’s game against Kingston. The Southern Eagles piled on four goals to the Saints’ one, and Penola maintained the lead at every change, eventually running out 30 point victors. It could’ve been much worse for Kingston had the home side kicked straight, with the Eagles kicking 13.17 to Kingston’s 10.5. Luke Ellis and Jon Copping were the standouts for Penola, with Jamie Walker and Copping kicking four goals each. Jamie Austin and Simon Beggs were Kingston’s better players, while Mark Peel kicked three.
It was a one-sided affair at Padthaway with Border Districts soundly beating the Lions. Padthaway clung on until halftime but were kept goalless after the main break by the rampaging Eagles. Ten unanswered goals in the second half saw Border Districts come out 89 point winners. Jason Mahney and Josh Robinson were the Eagle’s best, with Bradley Ellis kicking six majors. Mark Edwards and Andrew Orton were Padthaway’s best.
Over at Kaniva it was raining goals as the Tigers handed the Cougars a 296-point thrashing. Kybybolite opened their season’s account with a massive 13 goal to zero first quarter and never let up, keeping Kaniva-Leeor goalless until halftime. The Cougars managed three goals after halftime but the Tigers piled on a mammoth 48 for the match, which will be a handy percentage booster come finals time. Carberry was impressive for Kybybolite, kicking 12 goals in a best on ground performance. Ryan Woite and David Arnold were also top contributors, while George Kidman (seven goals), and Michael Pannell (six goals) added to the onslaught. Andy Maidment and Jason Wallis were the Cougar’s best.
This weekend Bordertown hosts Naracoorte with both sides looking for their first win, Border Districts meet Kaniva Leeor, Keith face off with Padthaway, Mundulla comes off the bye to play Kingston, and first round winners Kybybolite and Penola go head to head. Lucindale have the bye.
