Keith were quickly into stride in the KNT Grand final in a quest for their third flag in a row but Naracoorte saw of the challenge. They quickly assumed control with Zane Donnelly on top at the key defence position and with his brother Zak lending valuable support cut out any influence by the Keith forwards. Naracoorte was playing a fast run on game with good backing up which put the Keith under pressure. James Dixon and Sam Logan in the key forward posts were having the better of their opponents with Dixon being particularly dominant with strong marking and goal-kicking from centre half-forward. Jim West was having no impact for Keith and Jason Snajdar was being starved of chances. Naracoorte went further ahead in the second quarter and went into the break with a commanding 40 point lead.

They continued to dominate play through the third quarter although Keith battled hard to stay in the contest, Reece Francis and Tom Redden were doing everything to keep them in it but the Naracoorte defence just shut down any forward moves. Nathan Smith was playing a great captains’ game for Naracoorte and anything that Dixon missed, fellow forwards Hartree and Michael Parker snapped up.

Naracoorte held a 51 point lead at the last change and even though Keith managed six goals to four, they never threatened. Naracoorte were far too strong and quick and won easily by 43 points. James Dixon was best afield with his seven goal display at half-forward for Naracoorte but they had many good players with Zane and Zak Donnelly, Rob Jones and Nathan Smith being among them. Keith were simply outplayed on the day. Tom Redden, Andrew Willis, Al Hough , Mark Keighley and Reece Francis tried hard for the Keith Crows.

It was a weekend for the power forwards as Sam Logan kicked 18 goals in the Demons pumping of Borders by 179 points. Nigel Fiegert’s 11 goals helped Lucindale touch up Bordertown by 77 points and Adam Merrett kicked 11 also to give Penola a 122 point win over Kaniva/Leeor. In other games, Keith and Kingston were in a tight struggle until the reigning premier pulled away in the last term to win by 19 points while Mundulla were too good for Padthaway winning by 39 points with Luke Wiese kicking six for the winning side.

Naracoorte stayed unbeaten with 93 point win at Mundulla, Zac Donelly and Nathan Smith best for the Demons with Sam Logan slotting home 6 goals. Mundulla’s Heath Thorpe had a top game for the homeside kicking seven goals in a losing side. Lucindale’s Nigel Fiegert had plenty of supply kicking ten goals in their  teams 114 point win over Penola. Travis Ware kicked seven and Adam Pitt was named best. Penola could only manage four goals in the first three goals before gaining some respect kicking seven in the last term. In other games, Kyby were trouble by Padthaway for the first half before easing away to a 39 point win, Stuart Cooper kicked his second bag of ten for the season in Kingston’s thrashing of Kaniva/Leeor and Bordertown were far too good for Border Dists, with Tim Harkness in prime form, kicking eight goals.

NARACOORTE HANGS ON IN A TIGHT ONE

Naracoorte made it two from two with a hard fought 4 point win over nearby rivals Kybybolite. The Demons set up a early lead and held on the last term, with Matt Gill best for the homeside. In other games, Lucindale recovered from their loss last week to have a comfortable 84 point win at Kingston, Mundulla had a big win at Bordertown, Penola flogged Borders by 102 points with Adam Merrett the leading goalkicker of the weekend with 9. Reigning Premiers Keith kept Kaniva/Leeor to just 1.0 (6) in winning at home by 80 points.

A 13 thirteen goal haul to Kingston's, Stuart Cooper has been dominant feature of the opening round of the KNTFL. Cooper who kicked 155 goals in 2006 & 105 in 2007, enabled Kingston to have a comfortable first up win over Border Districts by 111 points. In other games, Last years Premiers Keith defeated Lucindale by 28 points, Mundulla had a solid win over the improed Penola, Naracoorte were too good for Padthaway winning by 188 and Kyby led all day against Bordertown to win by 23.
