Mid West Football League Medals
Congratulations to the 2006 Mail Medalist for Mid West, Murray Kelsh. Murray has had an outstanding season with Wirrulla, being part of an extremely strong mid field at Bomberland.
Murray polled 51 votes, receiving umpires votes in nine games, with centerline team mates Brad Cooper and Jarrod Parker also polling well, it is easy to see why the Bombers are pressing hard for premiership honors. Murray has been traveling from Pt Lincoln each week, and in his well structured speech spoke of his long held ambition of playing senior football with the club that shaped his junior years. Murray was a valuable member of the Mid West side at the Mortlock Shield, and is one of the keys as Wirrulla advance into the 2006 finals series.
The Presidents Medal winner as Mail Medal runner up is Central Eyre’s Martin Grocke, polling 39 votes. Martin has returned this year after a years absence recovering from a knee reconstruction. Martin won the Mail Medal in 2004. Darren Guidera from West Coast Hawks came in a very commendable third with 31 votes, having missed virtually the whole first round of football, with the ever reliable trio Kane Sampson (29), Ryan DuBois (27), and Scott Feltus (26) regular Eyre Peninsula representatives and vote catchers all polling well.
The Montgomerie Medal for the best player in the reserves competition was popularly won by Mitch Forbes from West Coast Hawks (34 votes) from Elliston’s Scott Bascombe (33) and Central Eyre’s John Taylor (23).
The colts Lockwood Medal winner for 2006 is Jessie Stringer from Central Eyre, who has had an outstanding season, both in colts ranks as a team leader, and also at senior level where he has an enormous future. The Doug Fox Medal winner as runner up is Chris Dickson of Western Districts, missing out by a solitary vote. Chris played some great A Grade football this year and is a star of the future.
Winning the Goal kicking for 2006 is the evergreen Troy Olsen with 74 goals. Troy added a further 6 goals in three quarters in the first semi final, and has a possible two games to play. Having missed games during the year, he could well have passed the magic three figure tally.
The Mid West Football League medal counts were held at Poochera, with an excellent crowd of about 350 in attendance and generously acknowledging all winners.
