BDT bounced back as expected against an undermanned Murrayville in the Preliminary Final.

Jarred Brock is one who has gone unnoticed outside BDT but his 2 finals matches have been exceptional and he has certainly stepped up a notch. Josh Richardson is a star performer who leads from the front and can take the game away from the opposition. He has support from 2013 Mail Medalist Patrick Barrett who dominates from a wing and Josh Keller who never seems under pressure and is a silky smooth mover. Clint Richardson & Lachlan Richardson step up a gear in big games The big men in Bill Traeger, Kevin Kock & Matthew James are hard to hold for a full match while Ben Hooper & Mark Vandeleur provide speed in attack and Shane Binns is capable of kicking a bag of goals. Chris Gregory, Justin Hurrell & Lee Slape can hold key defensive positions.

Lameroo had BDT’s measure for 3 quarters in the Second Semi Final win and will need the same intensity over 4 quarters if they are to lift the Premiership Shield. Ben Grieger is pivotal in ruck as he can deny BDT one of their main weapons, breaking clear at centre bounces and scoring easy goals. Back up ruckman Tom Caulfield held his own in the first final and has been a good player all year. The midfield of Shaun Walker, Hayden Thorpe, Matt Ridgway, Josh Ridgway, Scott Fischer & Craig Wellburn need to win their share of the ball to deny BDT their open running game. The defence has plenty of experience with David Philbey, Tristan Shaw, Billy McNeilly, Stephen Kerley, Craig Altus, Mark Benham & Brad Zerk capable of keeping the match a low scoring affair. Danny Steer, Travis Hancock & Jonty Seal are all youngsters who have performed well this season and should stand up in the Grand Final.

BDT were caught out in the Second Semi Final but it is hard to see Lameroo denying them another Premiership.

Preview                31/8/2013

Mallee Football & Netball Preliminary Final is at Pinnaroo this week with BDT featuring in more games than expected.

10am                                           Junior Colts          Peake v Lameroo

BDT v Murrayville

BDT went into finals undefeated but Lameroo showed last week they can match it with the best. Josh Richardson is a star performer who leads from the front and can take the game away from the opposition. He has support from 2013 Mail Medalist Patrick Barrett who dominates from a wing and Josh Keller who never seems under pressure and is a silky smooth mover. Clint Richardson & Lachlan Richardson step up a gear in big games and Jarred Brock has had a good year. The big men in Bill Traeger, Kevin Kock & Matthew James are hard to hold for a full match while Ben Hooper & Mark Vandeleur provide speed in attack although Shane Binns is still doubtful with a calf injury. Chris Gregory, Justin Hurrell & Lee Slape can hold key defensive positions.

Murrayville at their best can push BDT and 2012 Mail Medalist Michael Worsman is a chance to return after a year interrupted by hamstring injuries. Thomas Bailey is a smart midfielder and Kevin Wyatt is cool under pressure and always wins plenty of the ball. Todd Jones & Ali Vessali are mobile in ruck and can go forward while Drew Crane may need to go back to the goal front to provide a target. Clayton Sporn has found a spot in defence along with Brad Wyatt & Jesse Vass.

BDT on the rebound will not lose this one.

Lameroo Upset Hot Favourites Border Downs Tintinara

28 August 2013

In a major upset in Mallee Football Lameroo have qualified for the 2013 Grand Final by holding off the previously undefeated BDT in the Second Semi Final at Peake on Saturday.

In a strange match in ideal conditions it was strange that 21-17 was kicked “up the hill” while only 4-5 was kicked to the road end. The match was well umpired by Jim Norman & Wayne Paech with both defences holding firm as the ball was moved quickly by both teams from defence to attack.

Lameroo started with good intent but managed 4 behinds before Josh Keller put BDT in front with the first goal of the match. Lameroo responded with the next 4 goals to lead by 20 points at the first break. Brad Zerk & Stephen Kerley proved that experience is valuable in finals holding up well in defence for Lameroo.

Shane Agelis got the first goal of the second quarter for Lameroo before BDT clicked into gear. Clint Richardson on a wing and working across half back had a sensational quarter. Josh Keller. Lachlan & Josh Richardson stepped up to push BDT back into the match but Lameroo responded with goals to Tom Caulfield & Josh Ridgway to hold a 6 point advantage at the long break.

Lameroo dominated the “Premiership Quarter” piling on 6-6 to BDT’s 2 points and opening up a big 46 point lead at the last change. The term started with a string of behinds, 3 to Lameroo & 2 to BDT, their only score for the term. Lameroo then took over with Billy McNeilly moving forward and creating problems for BDT defence, Ben Grieger winning the duel in the air and Shaun Walker pushing forward from the midfield to harass the BDT defence.

BDT responded in the final term with Matthew James using his size to outmark opponents at full forward while Josh Keller, Josh Richardson & Lachlan Richardson went to work reducing the margin. BDT worked back to within a goal, but time ran out & Lameroo recorded a morale boosting victory.

Tristan Shaw has been a huge recruit for Lameroo mid season holding down centre half back and allowing Billy McNeilly to play forward when required. Ben Grieger is a dominant figure in ruck with Tom Caulfield providing good back up and also playing up forward. Hayden Thorpe is one of the cleverest players in the League & he sets up team mates consistently with creative hand ball.

Chris Gregory held firm at half back for BDT and Chris Butler is rarely beaten on a back flank. Jarran Crabb plays a “run with” role well and Jarred Brock is creative with a strong left foot kick at half forward.

BDT head into finals undefeated and pretty much untested throughout season 2013. Peake came within 6 points against a depleted BDT in Round 1 and Karoonda got within 27 points

in Round 5, after that clubs have had to be content getting within 10 goals.

Whenever a side has thought they had a chance BDT step up and put the game out of reach.

Josh Richardson is a star performer who leads from the front and takes the game away from the opposition whenever he feels BDT are under pressure. He has support from Patrick Barrett who dominates from a wing and Josh Keller who never seems under pressure and is a silky smooth mover. Clint Richardson & Lachlan Richardson step up a gear in big games and Jarred Brock has had a good year.

The big men in Bill Traeger, Kevin Kock, Shane Binns & Matthew James are hard to hold for a full match while Ben Hooper & Mark Vandeleur provide speed in attack. Chris Gregory, Justin Hurrell & Lee Slape can hold key defensive positions while Michael Kempe, Braden Kennett & Travis Miegel are close to the most consistent players in the league.

Lameroo have a never say die attitude that has served them well for many years. Ben Greiger is a massive influence in ruck and around the ground. The midfield is well served with Shaun Walker, who likes to push forward & kick goals, Hayden Thorpe providing the in & under work, Matt Ridgway providing strength and Josh Ridgway a smart small player.

Scott Fischer will play a role linking with their forwards. Billy McNeilly & Tristan Shaw are solid in key defensive roles with Joel Lewis providing rebound from defence. The attack needs to make the most of every opportunity with Jonty Seal & Shane Agelis needing to have an impact for

Lameroo to have any chance.

BDT have all bases covered and will move straight to the Grand Final.

MAIL MEDAL PREVIEW
19 August 2013

The Mallee Football League Mail Medal Count & Presentation is at Coonalpyn on Sunday 25th August at 12pm.
The 2012 Mail Medalist, Murrayville coach Michael Worsman, has been struck down most of 2013 with hamstring injuries and won’t feature in the leaders in 2013.
BDT
A dominant season will see a lot of votes go to BDT players, but will they be spread too far? Josh
Richardson & Patrick Barrett have been standouts and the coolness and ball winning ability of Josh
Keller cannot be dismissed.
Karoonda
Ben Quinn is a proven vote winner and Jarred Graetz has been amongst Karoonda’s best all season.
Lameroo
Shaun Walker & Ben Grieger are previous Mail Medalists and look likely to be the best chance from
Lameroo in 2013.
Murrayville
Have an even spread of players with Ali Vessali and Todd Jones standing out in ruck while Thomas
Bailey was strong early but missed matches late in the season.
Peake
Michael Baker has been noticeable in the midfield with Gabe Phillips likely to poll well as he plays
midfield & also kicks goals.
Pinnaroo
Brad Sheridan & Tyron Bennetts both played Zone football and have shown why this year. Both will
poll well as will Alex Keough who has been amongst Pinnaroo’s best players for a few years now.
Murrayville Win Tight Struggle in First Semi Final

by a special correspondent - Sunday 18 August, 2013

Murrayville held on to win a tense, low scoring First Semi Final against Karoonda by 3 points.
Murrayville had first use of a strong wind and lead Karoonda 3-4 to 0-2 at quarter time. Karoonda had opportunities but were unable to convert on the scoreboard while Murrayville used Kevin Wyatt & Clayton Sporn to rebound from defence to attack.
Karoonda used the wind better in the second term kicking 3-1, but Murrayville worked well into the wind adding 2-2 to hold a 15 point lead at the long break. It was a tight first half that can be seen in many finals with a total of 8 goals kicked by both teams.
Karoonda made a move in the third term with 2-1 against the wind and holding Murrayville to 2-4 with the wind to set up an absorbing final term.
The gap was closed to less than a goal by halfway through the final term, but Murrayville kicked a vital goal against the breeze, their only goal for the quarter. Karoonda managed another goal, but Murrayville flooded their defence and held on grimly for a hard fought win.
Clayton Sporn was strong and rebounding at half back for Murrayville and Kevin Wyatt picked up kicks at will either in defence or in the midfield. Tom Bailey showed his early season form cutting through the midfield and setting up his forwards with Ali Vessali a strong presence in attack with 3 goals and Daniel Fry playing his best match for many weeks. Brad Wyatt & Scott Kirkbright did their work in defence without any fuss and Todd Jones provide a strong contest in ruck.
Karoonda were best served by 14 year old Josh Smithson who had a standout game on his wing. Josh Rudiger showed some of his best form with strong marking around the ground and some hard work in ruck. He was supported by Lucas Neumann who also kicked 3 goals resting up forward. Corey Knight played a captains game winning the ball in the midfield, playing loose in defence or one out in attack and finished with 3 goals. Danny Walker, Ben Quinn & Zakk Bullard worked hard through the midfield and Jarred Graetz was back to his best in the second half although carrying an injury.
Murrayville now look forward to a Preliminary Final at Pinnaroo while Karoonda can only look towards 2014.

Karoonda v Murrayville
Murrayville lead head to head 2-1 in 2013 but Karoonda won their most recent encounter at Murrayville.
Karoonda have Zakk Bullard, Ben Quinn, Danny Walker & Corey Knight plating well in the midfield and will be wanting Jarred Graetz to recover from a heavy knock last week as he has been their best player this year and is a steadying influence when resting in defence. Andrew Smithson, Josh Rosenzweig, Eli Koch, Clint Warhurst, Chris Kruger & Brodie Chinner have held firm in defence all year while Lucas Neumann has performed well in ruck. Josh Rudiger is somewhat of a wild card as his best can see him dominate the aerial duels and he will need his best against Todd Jones. Ryan Paech, Wayne Luckett & Jarred Woodward have all played well at times this year but will need to register on the scoreboard for Karoonda to win.
Clayton Sporn and Daniel Fry have run into form at the right time with Drew Crane, Jake Venning & Cheyne Cronin forming a formidable attack. Todd Jones gives an edge in ruck with Ali Vessali a strong working midfielder who also kicks goals. Seb Moroney, Clint Gates, Tom Bailey & Sam Mader are quick running midfielders who also like impacting the scoreboard. Kevin Wyatt, Nick Noblett, Ryan McCormack, Jesse Vass & Brad Wyatt will be hard to score against in defence. Michael Worsman can make an impact if he returns from a hamstring injury.
Karoonda will start slight favourites in a close match.

League Preview               10/8/2013

Karoonda and Lameroo are fighting for the double chance this week with Karoonda taking on the undefeated BDT and Lameroo playing Peake who wants to finish the year on a high.

Murrayville will want a win after 6 straight losses while Pinnaroo will see a chance to avoid the wooden spoon with a win.

Peake v Lameroo

Peake had a great contest against Karoonda last week but could not finish off in the final term. Star recruits Gabe Phillips, Michael Baker and Shane Heinrich were outstanding through the midfield with Phillips again dangerous up forward. Although only kicking 1 goal last week Trevor Rigney was a constant threat & moved up the field at times and using his extreme pace to advantage. Bryce Jaensch continues his good form and played well loose in defence. Ryan Morris is a young player moving up the ranks with speed & good ball use from a wing or half forward. Jason Dikkenberg gives a strong contest in ruck with Kym Markwick & Gareth Diprose marshaling the defence.

Lameroo got out of gaol last week by holding Pinnaroo scoreless in the last term after trailing by 22 points at the last change to win by 11 points. Billy McNeilly has regained strong form after an injury interrupted season while Shaun Walker & Hayden Thorpe have been superb in the midfield. Ben Grieger gives a huge advantage in ruck and Shane Agelis will kick goals if given space. Josh Barrett is a Senior Colt who has had a good season in the Lameroo A Grade side.

Lameroo need to win to have a shot at the double chance and can account for Peake.

Murrayville v Pinnaroo

Murrayville are getting close to their best side back with Thomas Bailey possible to return this week although coach & reigning Mail Medallist Michael Worsman must be in doubt for the rest of the season after injuring a hamstring again. Todd Jones is an important player in ruck and his suspect back may hold the key for Murrayville. Ali Vessali provides back up in ruck as well as being mobile around the ground. Ryan McCormack has had a very consistent season and Clayton Sporn can be a focal point in attack along with Drew Crane & Daniel Fry. Nick Noblett, Brad Wyatt & Jesse Vass form the nucleus of a strong defence.

Pinnaroo’ s second half of the year has been very impressive with Ty Bennetts, Brad Sheridan & Alex Keough leading a major revival. Heath Boseley holds down a key defensive position against the odds with Chad & Wade Nickolls still dominant in ruck. Scott McIvor, Simon Reeve, Clint Muster & Leith Dabinett have all been good at times but need consistency.

Pinnaroo can finish on a high with a win over Murrayville.

Karoonda v BDT

Second placed Karoonda take on top side BDT who are unbeaten & untroubled in 2013. Jarred Graetz & Ben Quinn have been outstanding this season and Corey Knight & Zakk Bullard have returned to form after slow starts to the season Danny Walker, Josh Smithson & Donald Andrews provide midfield support with Ryan Paech in strong form at half forward. Wayne Luckett & Jarred Woodward are targets in attack while the defence of Andrew Smithson, Josh Rosenzweig, Clint Warhurst & Eli Koch have held up well.

BDT have quality all over the field. Patrick Barrett has become a premier midfielder along with Josh Richardson & Josh Keller. Lachlan & Clint Richardson are the most reliable players going around with Chris Butler a handy recruit this season. Chris Gregory will welcome the return of Lee Slape in defence while Shane Binns, Ben Hooper, Kevin Kock and Matthew James are hard to match up on in attack.

BDT will remain undefeated with the margin being important to Karoonda’s double chance.

League Preview               3/8/2013

Karoonda staked a claim for the double chance with a win at Murrayville last week, but there are still opportunities for Lameroo & possibly Murrayville to snatch it back if Karoonda slip up. Peake’s loss to Pinnaroo has all but shot their chances of playing finals in 2013.They have to win convincingly against Karoonda & Lameroo and hope that Murrayville lose both of their remaining matches. BDT are sitting on top waiting for the finals to begin.

BDT v Murrayville   (Coonalpyn)

BDT had a tighter game against Lameroo last week, but still ran away with the match. Patrick Barrett enjoys running off a wing while Josh Richardson, Josh Keller & Lachlan Richardson win most contests in the midfield. Ben Hooper is mobile up forward with Matthew James, Kevin Kock & Shane Binns all strong marking forwards. Chris Gregory & Justin Hurrell have covered the loss of Lee Slape in defence and Bill Traeger has been solid in ruck.

Murrayville need a win but it won’t be this week. They are getting back to full strength with only Tom Bailey & Seb Moroney missing last week. Nick Noblett, Kevin Wyatt & Jesse Vass

are all playing well in defence with Todd Jones one of the League’s best ruck men. Cheyne Cronin has been a valuable recruit adding to the goal kicking of Drew Crane, Daniel Fry & Clint Gates. Ali Vessali is a strong bodied midfielder and Sam Mader is a pacy wingman while Ryan McCormack has had a consistent season.

BDT will win well at home.

Lameroo v Pinnaroo

Lameroo face a danger game against Pinnaroo which they need to win if they want the double chance. Ben Grieger gives them an advantage in ruck although he won’t have it all his own way against Chad & Wade Nickolls. Shaun Walker is a class midfielder who pushes forward to kick goals and Hayden Thorpe provides the hard work in the centre square. Tristan Shaw has fitted in well at half back and provides good back up for Billy McNeilly & David Philbey. Matt & Josh Ridgway are midfielders who also kick goals with Jonty Seal showing he can be a handful at full forward.

Alex Keough, Brad Sheridan & Ty Bennetts have lead a revival at Pinnaroo in the second half of the season. They have been supported well by Chad Nickolls, Brad Rosenzweig, Leith Dabinett & Sean McIvor which has seen 3 wins in recent times. Heath Boseley has been strong across half back and Brad Schroeder can prove run from defence.

Lameroo have a lot to play for and should win a close contest.

Karoonda v Peake

Karoonda lost to Peake last time around and need to win to shore up Second position on the ladder. Their form has improved a losing 4 matches in a row mid-season and their better players are playing well. Jarred Graetz & Ben Quinn are in good form with Corey Knight & Zakk Bullard back to their best after slow starts. Danny Walker has had a good season in the midfield with Josh Smithson also having a good year on a wing. Andrew Smithson, Josh Rosenzweig & Eli Koch are strong in defence with Clint Warhurst providing speedy rebound.

Peake are dangerous with Michael Baker & Trevor Rigney standout players. Gabe Phillips, Bryce Jaensch & Shane Heinrich have been very good while Ryan Morris is becoming a very good A Grade player. Kym Markwick & Gareth Diprose work hard in defence with support from Bennett Pickering & Sam Patterson.

Karoonda can reverse the result from last time they met & win a tight match.

Preview                27/7/2013

The fight for the double chance opened up after last week’s results with Peake defeating Murrayville & Karoonda finding better form to overcome Lameroo and currently hold down Second position. Karoonda, Lameroo & Murrayville are equal on points and set to go down to the final match to secure a Second Semi Final berth. Peake have to win all 3 matches and have one of the three above them slip up and not win to make the finals.

Murrayville v Karoonda

Murrayville have had players missing either overseas or injured and they have struggled in recent times. Thomas Bailey, Daniel Fry, Todd Jones, Seb Moroney & Michael Worsman all missed last week and they need some of them back to get back onto the winners list. Cheyne Cronin has been a good recruit mid-season and has been amongst the goal kickers most weeks. Nick Noblett, Blake Edwards, Jesse Vass, Kevin Wyatt, Ryan McCormick & Brad Wyatt are a strong defence with Drew Crane, Clint Gates & Sam Mader capable of kicking a winning score. Ali Vessali is a strong presence around the ball, but they miss the run of Michael Worsman.

Karoonda will be hopeful playmakers Danny Walker & Brodie Chinner return this week. Corey Knight & Zakk Bullard played their best games for 2013 last week as did Donald Andrews. Jarred Graetz & Ben Quinn have carried the midfield at times and continue to impress. Lucas Neumann & Josh Rudiger are a solid ruck combination with Ryan Paech & Wayne Luckett hard working forwards. Andrew Smithson, Josh Rosenzweig & Eli Koch are experienced defenders while Clint Warhurst has plenty of run from defence.

A tight game looms at Murrayville with Karoonda to start as favourites.

BDT v Lameroo   (Tintinara)

BDT are coasting along and will build towards the finals in the coming weeks. Josh Richardson steps up when required and Josh Keller goes about his work with no fuss. Clint & Lachlan Richardson are “no fuss” footballers and Ben Hooper is ever reliable. Shane Binns can destroy any defence when he is on and will kick a lot of goals. Chris Gregory doesn’t get beaten at half back while Bill Traeger gives a good contest in ruck.

Lameroo would be disappointed after letting the chance to sew up second spot slip last week. Ben Grieger is a massive influence in ruck and strong marking around the ground. Shaun Walker pushes forward from the midfield and loves kicking goals. Matt Ridgway provides strength to the midfield and Hayden Thorpe wins the hard ball. Billy McNeilly is a strong defender who can go forward and Jonty Seal can be a threat at full forward.

BDT look to have no weakness and will account for Lameroo.

Pinnaroo v Peake

Pinnaroo’s first win was against Peake in the last round. Ty Bennetts, Alex Keough & Brad Sheridan are quality players and they have lifted Pinnaroo from mid-season. Brad Rosenzweig has turned into a consistent performer, reading the play well and using his pace to advantage. Heath Boseley, Chad Nickolls & Wade Nickolls always give their all and still hold down key positions.

Peake must win to keep any chance of finals alive. Michael Baker in the midfield & Trevor Rigney up forward have been outstanding all season. Shane Heinrich & Gabe Phillips are not far behind and are very good players. Gareth Diprose, Kym Markwick & Bennett Pickering hold the defence together along with Sam Patterson. Jason Dikkenberg has carried the ruck this year and done a good job.

Peake have too much to play for and can defeat Pinnaroo.

Preview        20/7/2013

Peake v Murrayville

There are 4 matches left and Peake are 2 games plus 10% behind Karoonda for a finals spot. There is a slim chance to play finals, but they cannot afford to lose any matches in the run to the finals.

Michael Baker has been a standout player in the midfield for Peake and Trevor Rigney has shown his class at full forward. Gabe Phillips is clever in the midfield and also has made a strong contribution up forward, but these 3 have been the only consistent players all year. Gareth Diprose, Kym Markwick & Sam Patterson work hard in defence but they get over run while Jason Dikkenberg has been good in ruck but may be struggling late in the year after carrying a big workload.

Murrayville need a win to keep alive the double chance after slipping to third last week with a loss to Lameroo. Ali Vessali will add strength in the midfield this week but coach Michael Worsman injured his hamstring again & may miss more matches. Todd Jones has struggled with injury in ruck after a great start to the season while Tom Bailey & Seb Moroney are missing at the moment. Kevin Wyatt plays well every week and Nick Noblett is a premier defender. Drew Crane is still kicking goals and Jake Venning has flourished since transferring from Pinnaroo this season.

Hard to pick a winner but Murrayville should come out on top.

Lameroo v Karoonda

Lameroo had a good win over Murrayville last week without Ben Grieger in ruck as well as Matt & Josh Ridgway, David Philbey & Craig Wellburn. Stephen Kerley has been strong since his return mid-year with his consistency in defence and Shaun Walker is a huge possession winner through the midfield. Billy McNeilly holds down a key defensive position and Hayden Thorpe continues to do the grunt work in the midfield.

Karoonda got back on the winners list last week and will need to improve again to match Lameroo after they were smashed last time they met. Danny Walker is in good form on a wing and play makers Ben Quinn, Zakk Bullard & Corey Knight showed last week they are not far off their best form. Jarred Graetz has been solid all year and Andrew Smithson has not been beaten in defence. Josh Rosenzweig takes on big roles in defence and continues to impress as does Lucas Neumann shouldering most of the ruck work.

Lameroo can win and strengthen their hold on second position on the ladder.

Pinnaroo v BDT

Pinnaroo have improved but will be tested this week against BDT. Alex Keough rarely plays a bad game and provides plenty of ball to Pinnaroo’ s forwards. Ty Bennetts and Brad Sheridan are class players in the midfield & up forward and Chad Nickolls is a clever tap ruckman. Brad Rosenzweig is having his best season in Mallee football and Wade Nickolls is a strong marking option in attack.

BDT have strength everywhere with options aplenty in the midfield – Josh Keller, Josh Richardson, Lachlan Richardson and Patrick Barrett would all be at home in any midfield in any country League. Clint Richardson plays half back or midfield with ease while Jarran Crabb & jarred Brock work well with these players. Chris Gregory controls the defence while Ben Hooper & Shane Binns will always provide targets in attack.

BDT will once again be too strong.

Preview     29/6/2013

Lameroo v Peake

Lameroo took 3 quarters to shake off Pinnaroo last week and face a Peake team desperate to keep winning & push for a finals spot.

Ben Greiger will be back this week to control the ruck giving Lameroo a big advantage in clearances. Shaun Walker continues to dominate the midfield along with the hard working Hayden Thorpe. Matt & Josh Ridgway are consistent performers while Scott Fischer has added depth to the midfield. Billy McNeilly is a key defender who can play a role in attack and Joel Lewis is having a very good year running off half back or a wing. Shane Agelis returned to form last week with 5 goals and Jarred Kerber is developing into a very good player.

Peake kept their finals hopes alive with a win over Karoonda last week and a win this week could see them in the four at the expense of Lameroo. Gabe Phillips is a sharp shooter up forward and creative in the midfield supporting the hard running Michael Baker. Shane Heinrich plays his role well and Bryce Jaensch is having a breakout season. Trevor Rigney is a constant threat at full forward and also pacy when on the ball with Jason Dikkenberg a strong ruckman who reads the ball well behind the play.

Lameroo can control the clearances & defeat Peake.

Pinnaroo v Murrayville

Pinnaroo’s form since the Inter league match has seen a huge improvement. Ty Bennetts continues to dominate the midfield and Brad Sheridan is a genuine centre half forward. Wade Nickolls causes problems at full forward with his height & skill while Alex Keough racks up 30 plus possessions every week. Brad Schroeder & Heath Boseley do their work every week and Scott McIvor has been a good recruit.

Murrayville were demoralized by BDT last week and will be out for revenge against Pinnaroo. Kevin Wyatt is quality and the most versatile player in the league with Ali Vessali not far behind him. Ryan McCormack is an unassuming defender along with Blake Edwards and they work well with Nick Noblett, Jesse Vass & Brad Wyatt. Drew Crane & Daniel Fry provides strong marking forward targets with Jake Venning fitting in well at Murrayville.

Murrayville will bounce back and win a close match.

BDT v Karoonda  (at Tintinara)

BDT are at least 10 goals ahead of the rest and are building towards finals. Kevin Kock retuned last week along with Shane Binns & Matthew James to top up the big man area. Patrick Barrett adds to the quality of Josh Keller & Josh Richardson with hard work done by Lachlan Richardson. Jarred Brock & Jarran Crabb work well within their structure and Chris Gregory controls the defence.

Karoonda are on the slide losing their last 3 matches and coming up against the top side this week. Brodie Chinner is working back to his best form and Corey Knight is showing signs of returning to his best. Jarred Graetz & Ben Quinn have struggled to influence games recently along with Zakk Bullard who works hard in the midfield. Lucas Neumann has stepped up in ruck with Jarred Woodward providing good support. Andrew Smithson & Josh Rosenzweig are strong defenders and Josh Smithson at 14 years of age is playing good football on a wing.

BDT will be too strong for Karoonda.

Mallee League Preview                   22/6/2013

Murrayville v BDT

Murrayville have been in good form with their last loss to BDT in the first round. Ali Vessali can work in ruck but is also mobile enough to be an important midfielder. Todd Jones is a strong ruckman who also works hard in defence while Nick Noblett, Kevin Wyatt, Jesse Vass & Brad Wyatt hold firm i9n defence. The attack has many options with Drew Crane, Daniel Fry, Sebastian Moroney & Jake Venning all capable of kicking multiple goals. Clint Gates uses the ball well in the midfield with Clayton Sporn in form as a lead up centre half forward.

BDT should bring back Josh Keller & Shane Binns this week with Matthew James returning in attack last week and Dustin Head playing his first match back after a knee injury to find some touch before heading back to West Adelaide. Josh & Lachlan Richardson provide class & strength in the centre square with Jarred Brock also doing some hard work in the midfield. Bill Traeger has lead the ruck well while Chris Gregory & Lee Slape control the defence.

BDT should come under some pressure but can continue their winning run.

Pinnaroo v Lameroo

Pinnaroo will be buoyed by their big win over Peake last week. Their Inter League players continued their fine form with Ty Bennetts, Brad Sheridan & Alex Keough leading the charge. Wade Nickolls provides a strong presence in the goal square and will kick goals. Chad Nickolls controls the ruck while Brad Rosenzweig has had a good season on a wing. Lachlan Bailey is a good youngster and they need consistent performances from Sean McIvor & Simon Reeve.

Lameroo only kicked 3 goals against BDT after some encouraging form before the Inter league match. Ben Grieger gives them first use in ruck and Shaun Walker is playing as well as he ever has in the midfield. Matt Ridgway is playing well after a slow start to the season while Billy McNeilly & David Philbey will need to be on top against Wade Nickolls & Brad Sheridan. Hayden Thorpe & Scott Fischer are hard workers in the midfield and Andrew Purchase is creative although he missed a lot of matches this year.

Lameroo to bounce back and win this week.

Peake v Karoonda

Peake’s season is on the line after losing to Pinnaroo last week. Trevor Rigney is a shining light up forward and he leads the league goal kicking comfortable while Gabe Phillips sits in 4th spot on the list. Jeff lines can chip in with goals but they need a better spread. Michael Baker will return to the midfield and Simon Lieshout is a clever wingman. The defence is solid with Gareth Diprose, Kym Markwick, Sam Patterson & Bennett Pickering and Bryce Jaensch continues to build his reputation as a midfielder.

Karoonda rely on Jarred Graetz, Ben Quinn & Zakk Bullard to set up play while Corey Knight is showing signs of building his fitness for the second half of the year. Lucas Neumann is carrying the ruck with Josh Rudiger hampered by a shoulder injury and Jarred Woodward can fill many roles. The defence is strong with Andrew Smithson, Brodie Chinner & Josh Rosenzweig leading the way. Josh Smithson has had a strong start to his senior career on a wing while Danny Walker is creative on ball & up forward.

Karoonda look more consistent and should win at Peake.

Preview of Round Nine                   Thursday 13/6/2013

Karoonda v Murrayville

The stakes are high with Murrayville a great chance to consolidate second spot with a win putting them 2 wins clear for the double chance. Karoonda need to win to even up the contest.

Karoonda’s last match against Lameroo was a very poor effort and they will be hopeful Zakk Bullard, Daniel Thiele & Josh Rudiger return this week, but need a better overall effort if they are to trouble Murrayville. Danny Walker has been good in the midfield providing support to Ben Quinn. The defence has been solid with Jarred Graetz, Andrew Smithson, Josh Rosenzweig & Eli Koch holding firm. Up forward Corey Knight has been able to kick goals without exerting his usual influence on the game. Jackson Koch, Wayne Luckett & Keelan White have all showed glimpses this year but need to put in consistent performance for Karoonda to be a force.

Murrayville should welcome back ruckman Todd Jones but will be without key midfielders Michael Worsman & Thomas Bailey. They have pace in the midfield with Sam Mader, Sebastian Moroney & Clinton Gates with Drew Crane & Daniel Fry constant threats in attack. Nick Noblett is one of the MFL’s best defenders and Jesse Vass provides run from defence. Ali Vessali gives a strong presence in the midfield and Kevin Wyatt is an experienced player and can fill many roles.

Murrayville look a little stronger overall and can consolidate the double chance.

Peake v Pinnaroo

Peake again are in a must win match if they want to play finals. Michael Baker will miss this week, but they still have Gabe Phillips, Shane Heinrich, Glenn VanLieshout, Bryce Jaensch & Ryan Morris. Jason Dikkenberg will have a big day in ruck against the Nickolls brothers and Trevor Rigney will be hard for the Pinnaroo defence to stop. Kym Markwick, Gareth Diprose, Sam Patterson & Bennett Pickering should be able to hold the Pinnaroo forwards and one of them will have their work cut out with Brad Sheridan.

Pinnaroo have some good “top end” players with Brad Sheridan & Ty Bennetts outstanding at Inter League level last week. Alex Keough always gets plenty of possessions and Chad Nickolls is rarely beaten in ruck. Wade Nickolls will be a nuisance at full forward while Sean McIvor & Simon Reeve have kicked goals for Pinnaroo this season.

Peake have too much to gain and will keep Pinnaroo winless for 2013.

Lameroo v BDT

Lameroos form last week was excellent as was the first half against Murrayville. They may welcome back Shane Agelis, Jarred Kerber, Billy McNeilly, Danny Steer & Andrew Purchase which would be a huge boost. Ben Grieger will win the ruck giving Shaun Walker, Matt Ridgway & Hayden Thorpe an advantage in the centre square. Stephen Kerley returned last week and added some depth in defence while Josh Ridgway played his best game of 2013.

BDT are gaining strength and key forward Matthew James must be close to resuming with Shane Binns returning to the goal front last week. The midfield is almost unbeatable with Josh Richardson, Josh Keller & Lachlan Richardson all able to “turn it on” when required. Bill Traeger is holding his own in ruck and Chris Gregory and Lee Slape control the key defensive positions.

BDT will win but Lameroo can get close if they continue the football they played recently.

Mallee notch emphatic Win over Mid South East

Tuesday 11 June 2013

The Mallee League ventured to Kalangadoo to take on Mid South Eastern League for the third time with Mid South East comfortable victors in the first two encounters. It was a fresh breeze that greeted the Mallee faithful with the oval in good condition after some heavy rain late in the week.

The Mallee League turned the tables this time, recording a convincing 70 point victory. The team was coached by Kevin Roberts with assistance from Todd Butler and they created a very enthusiastic atmosphere which all of the players became involved with. The Mallee League has taken a strong stand on players being available for Inter League and the policy showed the benefits with the best side put out for some time.

Josh Richardson as Captain lead from the front winning clearances at will and enjoyed roving to Ben Grieger who carried the ruck for 95% of the match. Ty Bennetts, Josh Keller, Lachlan Richardson & Ben Quinn provided great support in the midfield with Patrick Barrett, Matthew Ridgway & Sam Mader using their pace to advantage on the wings.

The defence held firm with Chris Gregory strong until sitting out the second half, Nick Noblett solid & rebounding at centre half back and Andrew Smithson shutting down the MSE full forward. Jarred Graetz, Ben Hooper, Kevin Wyatt, Jarran Crabb & Jesse Vass held firm as well as creating opportunities with their rebound.

Trevor Rigney was a focal point at full forward with five goals and had a valuable foil in Drew Crane. Brad Sheridan covered almost every part of Kalangadoo Oval to be a clear winner at centre half forward while Gabe Phillips made the most of his chances to finish with three goals and Alex Keogh was creative when playing in attack.

Mallee held a 27 point advantage which they extended to 53 points by half time. An even third quarter saw Mallee in front by 48 points at 3/4 time and run out the game well to be 70 points up at the final siren.

MALLEE LEAGUE RETURN TO THE WINNERS LIST OVER THE MID SOUTHEAST

by Terry Willoughby 9 June 2013

The Mid South East FL, on the path of three interleague wins on the trot were given a reality check when the Mallee FL thrashed them to the tune of 70 points at Kalangadoo. Quickly into stride, the Mallee on-ballers in Ben Grieger and Josh Richardson dominated the stoppages and around the ground to give their forwards plenty of chances.

They raced to a 27 point lead at quarter-time and continued to call the tune in the 2nd term where the MSE had their star mid-fielder Tylah Saunders sent off for rough conduct. The ½ time lead of 53 points looked a bridge too far for the MSE but the return of Saunders lifted them and they booted three quick goals before the Mallee regained the ascendency to lead by 48 points at ¾ time.

Coach Ben McGregor had battled hard against over-whelming numbers and Rohan Povey in defence for the MSE worked hard to keep MSE alive. The Mallee side again took control in the last quarter with Josh Richardson and mid-fielder Tyron Bennetts involved in most forward moves booted 6 goals to three from the MSE and run out easy winners.

Josh Richardson was best on ground for the Mallee after gathering possessions all over the ground, rovers need a strong ruckman and Ben Grieger was just that and Bennetts caused damage with every kick, Trevor Rigney booted five goals at full forward to be a constant threat.

For the MSE who hardly won a position, Ben McGregor did a man-size job trying to lift his team, Povey and fellow defender Bronson Saffin saw plenty of action but precious little assistance.

Mallee v Mid South East   Preview             8/6/2013

Mallee League take on Mid South East at Kalangadoo next Saturday. Three matches will be played with Under 14, Under 17 & A Grade matches. After a close result in the A Grade in 2012 the Mallee team are looking to put a win on the board in 2013. Kevin Roberts has taken over coaching duties this year and his enthusiasm has had a big impact on the players in the squad.

The midfield will be lead by Josh Keller, Josh Richardson, Shaun Walker & Ben Quinn who are all in great form. Ty Bennetts & Lachlan Richardson will provide some hardness around the ball while Ben Greiger will give a huge boost in the ruck with back up from Todd Jones or Jason Dikkenberg. Patrick Barrett and Sam Mader provide run & dash and will get the ball forward with plenty of pace.

Drew Crane and Trevor Rigney are in form around the goal front and should provide a formidable two pronged attack. Brad Sheridan has been in control at centre half forward for Pinnaroo and should relish the opportunity to play with the best players in the League.

Gabe Phillips is a proven goal kicker and will cause problems for the MSE defence. The defence looks strong with Andrew Smithson in good form at full back while Nick Noblett & Chris Gregory can also hold down a key position. Jarred Graetz, Kevin Wyatt & Jesse Vass can all play on tall or small and will be creative from defence.

Matt Ridgway & Ben Hooper always step up in these matches and Bryce Jaensch may get an opportunity after some good football in 2013. Hayden Thorpe is an “in & under” type who may relish the expected wet conditions next weekend.

The Mallee side will be finalized after training at Tailem Bend on Wednesday night and if the best side available can be put on the field they have a great chance to come away with a win at Kalangadoo.

Round 7 Preview                  1/6/2013

Murrayville v Peake

Murrayville came from behind to record a strong win over Lameroo last week and can put another game between them & Peake with a win this week. Drew Crane is finding some good form at full forward and he has been a problem for Peake many times in the past. Sebastian Moroney has slipped in and is second on Murrayville’s goal kicking list while Daniel Fry, although not back to his 2012 form can still be dangerous around goal. Todd Jones is giving them an edge in ruck and is exceptional with his hard work around the ground. Thomas Bailey has found another level in 2013 and Sam Mader is a small fleet footed wingman. Ali Vessali provides a strong body around the midfield with Nick Noblett & Jesse Vass controlling the defence.

Peake will be keen to take the scalp of at least one of the teams above them to show they can match it in 2013. Trevor Rigney and Gabe Phillips give them targets in attack and Jeff Lines will always give a contest. Jason Dikkenberg will have a good duel with Todd Jones in ruck and give Michael Baker & Shane Heinrich opportunities in the midfield. Peake have a hard working defence with Sam Patterson, Gareth Diprose, Bryce Jaensch & Bennett Pickering.

Murrayville at home are always hard to beat and they can win again this week.

Lameroo v Karoonda

Lameroo went down after leading Murrayville convincingly last week in a fashion that goes against the “Never Say Die” attitude associated with Lameroo. Ben Grieger is in great touch in ruck and Shaun Walker still leads the way in the midfield. Andrew Purchase, Hayden Thorpe, Mark Benham & Danny Steer are consistent performers while Matt Ridgway put in his best performance of 2013 last week. Jonty Seal came in last week with 3 goals and may help to find more scoring options with Shane Agelis also dangerous in attack.

Karoonda may have to find replacements for Zakk Bullard & Josh Rudiger who were injured in the win over Pinnaroo last week. Brodie Chinner & Simon Martin should return to add to the midfield which is lead by Ben Quinn, Danny Walker & Jarred Graetz. Corey Knight has been a goal kicker up forward and Keelan White has been good as a small forward. Lucas Neumann is a strong ruckman and the defence works well with Andrew Smithson & Josh Rosenzweig leading the way.

Karoonda may win in a very close match.

BDT v Pinnaroo

BDT are almost back to their 2012 side with the return of Shane Binns to full forward. Matthew James is due to return at centre half forward, but Clint Richardson will miss about 6 weeks with a broken hand. Josh Richardson is looking at another Mail Medal with Josh Keller and Patrick Barrett classy in the midfield. Chris Gregory is in a class of his own at half back while Lee Slape is rarely beaten on the last line of defence. Braden Kennett & Justin Hurrell have stepped up a notch with Bill Traeger giving a good contest in ruck.

Pinnaroo have some very good players lead by Brad Sheridan at centre half forward. Alex Keough & Ty Bennetts are ball winners in the midfield while Heath Boseley gives his all and is used to fill gaps at either end of the field. Brad Rosenzweig is having a good season on his wing and Chad & Wade Nickolls are always on top in the ruck. Scott McIvor knows how to kick goals and Simon Reeve has been productive at full forward.

BDT will continue their unbeaten run with a win over Pinnaroo.

Match Previews     25/5/2013

Peake v BDT

Peake are back in the finals hunt after a good win over Lameroo last week. Trevor Rigney sits on top of the goal kicking ladder averaging 5 goals a match and it is only a matter of time before he bags double figures. Gabe Phillips fills second spot with 4 goals a match and the forward line is functioning well when given opportunities. Michael Baker and Shane Heinrich win possessions in the midfield with Jason Dikkenberg having a great start to 2013 in ruck. Glenn Van Lieshout played his first match last week and brings high expectations after missing a couple of seasons of football. The defence has been suspect although they are starting to build into a solid unit with Gareth Diprose, Kym Markwick, Bryce Jaensch, Bennett Pickering & Sam Patterson performing well.

BDT turn it on when they have to as shown after being challenged by Karoonda last week. Josh Richardson can still win a match off his own boot, Josh Keller is all class, Chris Gregory is rarely beaten at centre half back while Lachlan Richardson does a huge amount of work that goes unnoticed by many. Clint Richardson plays best when BDT are challenged and Bill Traeger has filled the ruck role well.

BDT have overall strength and will defeat Peake.

Pinnaroo v Karoonda

Pinnaroo have improved with quality players Brad Sheridan and Ty Bennetts back and finding form. Heath Boseley works hard each week, usually against taller opposition while Brad Rosenzweig is having a good season on his wing. Chad Nickolls wins most ruck contests and Alex Keough is a ball magnet in the midfield. Brad Schroeder is a strong contributor in defence and Simon Reeve has found his feet up forward with 15 goals from his last 4 matches.

Karoonda are travelling ok and were shown by BDT last week that there is another level if they want to push further than 2012. Jarred Graetz & Ben Quinn have been in outstanding touch with Zakk Bullard a tireless worker in the centre. The defence is strong lead by Andrew Smithson and the ruck can be a match winner when Josh Rudiger and Lucas Neumann are doing the hard work. Jackson Koch has shown he can be a focal point in attack, but needs more consistency. Nick Zander is a welcome return and Corey Knight is always dangerous around goal as is Keelan White who uses his speed to advantage.

Karoonda will win at Pinnaroo

Lameroo v Murrayville

Lameroo need to pinch a game back as they finished Round 1 outside the four with a poor percentage. Ben Grieger is the best ruckman going around while Shaun Walker can still swing games in Lameroo’s favour. Youngster Danny Steer has been amongst Lameroo’s best this year and Nick Brown and Josh Barrett are showing plenty of promise. Hayden Thorpe wins hard ball in the midfield and Brad Zerk is as reliable as ever. Matt Ridgway and Shane Agelis need to kick goals if Lameroo are to push back into finals contention.

Murrayville are building a solid team with Kevin Wyatt adding to the midfield strength and Michael Worsman returning from injury. Todd Jones works hard in ruck and provides strength around the ground while up forward Drew Crane is in good touch and will be even better with Daniel Fry finding form. Nick Noblett & Jesse Vass leads a solid defence while Sam Mader, Thomas Bailey, Seb Moroney & Clint Gates provide speed through the midfield. Ali Vessali is a versatile big man who has an influence on the game.

Murrayville can reverse the result last time they met & win this week.

League Preview - 18/5/2013

Karoonda v BDT

Karoonda got the points last week after a shaky start and will need to be switched on for four quarters to trouble BDT.

Ben Quinn & Jarred Graetz have been in outstanding form while Zakk Bullard continues to impress with his work rate. Josh Rudiger & Lucas Neumann are starting to have an influence as fitness improves with Corey Knight proving dangerous in attack. Jackson Koch has stepped up to provide a target up forward and Keelan White is a quick moving small forward. Andrew Smithson leads a strong defence with support from Eli Koch, Daniel Thiele & Josh Rosenzweig. The addition of Danny Walker to the midfield has added depth while youngster Josh Smithson shows great awareness in his first taste of senior football.

BDT get the job done week in, week out. Murrayville were expected to provide a good contest, but were brushed aside by a strong BDT unit. Patrick Barrett has probably taken over as the premier midfielder with Josh Keller & Josh Richardson still amongst the best in the league. Ben Hooper’s return has boosted the attack with Bill Traeger compensating some of the big man losses from 2012. Michael Kempe is rated extremely highly at BDT and Jarred Brock continues to show solid form. Chris Gregory & lee Slape don’t often get mentioned but are always holding down key defensive roles.

BDT have shown they are still a force and should win this top of the table clash.

Murrayville v Pinnaroo

Murrayville will bounce back from last week when they face Pinnaroo. Kevin Wyatt was a big inclusion last week, but Michael Worsman may still be a week or two away from resuming. Drew Crane has slotted back into full forward after a season off, but Daniel Fry is finding it hard to return to his goal kicking form of 2012. Todd Jones is amongst the league’s best ruckman while Ali Vessali provides strength around the ball. Sam Mader, Clinton Gates & Seb Moroney are quick running midfielders who will kick goals. Jesse Vass & Nick Noblett fill key positions in defence and give little away.

Pinnaroo were better against a depleted Lameroo last week. Alex Keough continues to accumulate possessions and Heath Boseley is a consistent performer. Brad Schroeder is in good form in defence while Brad Rosenzweig & Colin Maddocks give some run through the midfield. Chad Nickolls will work hard in ruck while Simon Reeve has given them a goal kicking target the past 2 weeks. Brad Sheridan is a quality player making a welcome return last week and if Ty Bennetts returns this week it will be a huge boost.

Murrayville will win to finish Round 1 well in finals contention.

Peake v Lameroo

It is early in the season but this is a must win match for Peake. A loss would see them 2 games out of the final four and with a lot of work to do and coach Sam Mahoney made his team well aware of this after the loss to Karoonda last week.

Michael Baker is a hard working midfielder along with Gabe Phillips, Shane Heinrich and Bryce Jaensch. Jason Dikkenberg works tirelessly in ruck and Gareth Diprose is a strong key defender. Trevor Rigney is an excitement machine at full forward, but the midfield need to create enough chances for him to influence a game.

Lameroo should welcome back Ben Grieger, Shaun Walker, Hayden Thorpe & Travis Hancock this week. Andrew Purchase is a big inclusion if he plays each week after his first match against Pinnaroo. Shane Agelis is a dangerous forward when given space while Josh & Matt Ridgway are also proven goal kickers. David Philbey has been used to fill holes in key positions at either end of the ground and also in ruck, always performing well. Danny Steer has been in good touch with Joel Lewis providing rebound from half back.

Lameroo are a well drilled team and can win at Peake.

Preview                  11/5/2013

Round 4 is “Give Cancer the Boot” weekend in Mallee Football. Clubs will be raising funds for Cancer SA Research Projects, prevention & support activities, accommodation, transport services & counseling. Mallee Clubs have raised $3397 for the cause since inception, second in South Australia behind Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara League. Admission will be raised by $2 to $7 this week to assist in raising funds for “Give cancer the Boot”

Lameroo v Pinnaroo

Lameroo were disappointing against BDT last week, but Pinnaroo were also below par against Peake. Lameroo are desperate for someone to stand up as a target in attack and kick goals regularly. Ben Grieger can do the job but is also required as a ruckman and his marking around the ground is invaluable. The possible return of Andrew Purchase will give added bite in the midfield and also as a small forward. Hayden Thorpe is always around the ball in the midfield and Shaun Walker is a quality ball user when given space. Jarred Kerber and Danny Steer are young players who are fitting well into senior football.

Alex Keough has been the standout player for Pinnaroo again this year. Chad Nickolls, Heath Boseley & Brad Schroeder always give 100% and Brad Rosenzweig has had a good start to 2013. Ty Bennetts is a quality midfielder while Simon Reeve stepped up with 5 goals last week. Pinnaroo will be better when they get Brad Sheridan back on the field.

Lameroo should win comfortably against Pinnaroo.

Karoonda v Peake

This shapes as an important match for both clubs early in the season. Karoonda can pinch a break or Peake can draw level to open up a serious finals chance.

Karoonda were disappointing at Murrayville last week & will welcome back Zakk Bullard this week. Ben Quinn is leading by example and Jarred Graetz is having an influence at both ends of the ground. Andrew Smithson, Daniel Thiele, Eli Koch and Josh Rosenzweig form a strong defence while Jackson Koch showed his potential with 5 goals last week. Lucas Neumann & Josh Rudiger share the ruck duties and both can be used in attack.

Peake’s recruits are starring with Gabe Phillips (7 goals), Trevor Rigney (6 goals) & Michael Baker all firing last week. Bryce Jaensch had a breakout year in 2012 and has continued that improvement into 2013. Jason Dikkenberg is always around the mark in ruck while Gareth Diprose & Kym Markwick hold down key defensive roles.

There is plenty riding on this result and Karoonda can win at home in a tight match.

BDT v Murrayville  (Tintinara)

BDT look to be cruising along again in 2013 with their player losses from 2012 being offset by Matthew James and Chris Butler with Kevin Kock to return and strengthen the big man department. They have many midfielders who can play forward with Josh Richardson kicking 7 goals last week. Josh Keller, Patrick Barrett & Jarred Brock have continued on from last season with Ben Hooper returning last week to add versatility to a strong team.

Murrayville can be the real deal with Michael Worsman to return and Kevin Wyatt set to be back at Murrayville in a couple of weeks. Todd Jones gives them a start in ruck and Ali Vessali provides a strong body around the packs. Sam Mader is a quick wingman with Thomas Bailey, Clint Gates & Seb Moroney all capable of cutting through lines to set up their forwards. Jesse Vass & Nick Noblett give nothing away in defence while Ryan McCormack & Blake Edwards do their job when required. Drew Crane is dangerous in attack with Jake Venning adding to the goal kicking list. Daniel Fry has not hit the heights of 2012 but will further strengthen the attack when he can get on the board.

BDT at home may just win what should be an entertaining match.

Preview of 4/5/2013

Murrayville v Karoonda

Murrayville recorded their first win of 2013 with a narrow win over Peake last week without Drew Crane & with Coach Michael Worsman having little influence carrying a hamstring injury.

Daniel Fry stepped up with 4 goals and Thomas Bailey has started the season strongly. Nick Noblett is one of the best key defenders in the Mallee League with Todd Jones & Ali Vessali adding strength around the ground. Jesse Vass has been a good player for a number of seasons and the proposed return of Kevin Wyatt will be a major boost to Murrayville.

Karoonda got the jump on Lameroo last week and held the advantage all day. Ben Quinn has been in outstanding form in the midfield and Jarred Graetz controlled the defence all day. Andrew Smithson, Daniel Thiele & Eli Koch are holding down key positions in defence while Josh Rudiger is having more influence each match in ruck. Corey Knight is extremely skilled while Zakk Bullard is a hard working midfielder. Jarred Woodward, Ryan Paech & Wayne Luckett are good targets up forward while Danny Walker has slotted into the midfield well.

Karoonda can continue their unbeaten run with a win at Murrayville.

BDT v Lameroo  (Coonalpyn)

BDT had a solid win over Pinnaroo to go 2-0 and the impending return of Kevin Kock will boost the one area they were slightly suspect adding height for the forward line and ruck. There is quality in the midfield with Josh Keller, Patrick Barrett, Josh Richardson, Lachlan Richardson, Clint Richardson & Chad Kennett who can all feature on the scoreboard. Michael Kempe is an underrated player outside BDT and Chris Butler looks to be a good inclusion in 2013. Matthew James has had an influence in both matches so far while Chris Gregory & Lee Slape lead a solid defence.

Lameroo will be better with Andrew Purchase, Stephen Kerley & Brad Zerk who all missed last week. Ben Grieger is a strong presence and marks almost everything that comes his way. Matt Ridgway was quiet last week and will rebound this week while David Philbey looked good when moved to full forward against Karoonda. Shaun Walker and Hayden Thorpe win plenty of possessions in the midfield with Joel Lewis a rebounding half back flanker.

BDT can win what should be an excellent game.

Pinnaroo v Peake

Pinnaroo were better last week with the inclusion of Ty Bennett and the return of Colin Maddocks although losing Wade Nickolls & Brad Sheridan for some time is a big loss. Alex Keough is consistently Pinnaroo’s best player and Brad Rosenzweig has opened the year in great form on a wing. Chad Nickolls never gives in and Heath Boseley works hard in a key position either in defence or attack.

Peake have lost 2 matches to start 2013 by a combined 10 points and need a win to boost their confidence. Coach Sam Mahoney & Kieran Jaensch are reported to be out for the season with knee injuries so others need to step up. Trevor Rigney will kick goals every week, but he will need support if Peake are to win matches. Gabe Phillips, Michael Baker & Shane Heinrich are recruits having an influence and Bryce Jaensch continues to impress after a strong 2012 season. Gareth Diprose leads the defence with Jason Dikkenberg giving a strong contest ion ruck.

Peake will win to kick start their 2013 push for a finals spot.

PREVIEW OF ROUND 2 - 27/4/2013

Peake v Murrayville

Peake just failed to overcome a depleted BDT last week and will be ken on their first win for 2013. Trevor Rigney & Gabe Phillips will be a strong combination in attack for Peake and should feature high in the goal kicking list. Jason Dikkenberg is an underrated ruck man who is rarely beaten and gives the Peake midfield lead by Philip Baker a head start. Kym Markwick’s return to defence takes some pressure off of Gareth Diprose and Bryce Jaensch. Ryan Morris is an up & coming junior and Kieran Jaensch can be dangerous if given space,

Murrayville come off a disappointing loss to Lameroo and are also looking for their first win.

Jake Venning played well last week after transferring from Pinnaroo while the midfield is strong with Michael Worsman although he may miss with a hamstring injury., Ali Vessali, Jesse Vass & Thomas Bailey all good ball winners. Todd Jones is a mobile ruckman and Drew Crane & Daniel Fry are very strong targets up forward.

Murrayville look to have a little more depth and if their forward lines fires on the small Peake ground they can open their winning account for 2013.

Karoonda v Lameroo

Karoonda come off a big win over Pinnaroo last week and will need to be in top form against Lameroo. Ben Quinn leads by example and Zakk Bullard never stops working in the midfield. Danny Walker & Matt Pfeiffer provide good support and Corey Knights ball use is as good as any in the League. Andrew Smithson, Daniel Thiele & Jarred Graetz combine well in defence while Jarred Woodward will provide a target up forward along with Ryan Paech & Jackson Koch.

Lameroo had a good win over Murrayville and may welcome Andrew Purchase back to the midfield. Ben Grieger will provide a boost with his strong marking and Matt Ridgway leads well & is an accurate kick up forward. Jarred Kerber & Danny Steer are up & coming juniors while Shaun Walker & Hayden Thorpe will provide some class.

Hard to go against Karoonda after a big win last week, but Lameroo may just sneak home in a tight match.

Pinnaroo v BDT

Pinnaroo look to be in for a long season with coach Wade Nickolls limping off with a groin injury early last week. Ty Bennetts may return and will make a difference with his attack on the ball. Alex Keough was everywhere last week and Brad Rosenzweig had a day out on his wing. Chad Nickolls toiled hard in ruck and Brad Schroeder was a winner in defence. Brad Sheridan showed his class under enormous pressure while Sean McIvor showed glimpse that he will be a valuable recruit.

BDT will welcome back the Richardsons (Josh, Clint & Lachlan) along with Chris Gregory. The midfield is strong with Josh Keller, Patrick Barrett, Jarran Crabb & Chad Kennett while Chris Butler looks to be fitting in well. Matthew James is a big presence and will provide a target in attack.

BDT will be too strong and win this one well.

Preview                  20/4/2013

Murrayville v Lameroo

Murrayville have lost their 2012 Captain in Nick Rees and Trent Sporn but have gained Clint Gates, Sam Mader, Seb Moroney & Ali Vessali with Drew Crane returning after a year off.

Coach Michael Worsman won the 2012 Mail Medal and will control the midfield again while Nick Noblett is rarely beaten in defence. Todd Jones developed into a very good ruckman last season and will give the midfield many opportunities. Drew Crane will combine with Daniel Fry to form a formidable attack which most clubs will struggle to control.

Lameroo have Ben Grieger returning from the SANFL and he will give a huge boost in the big man department. Scott Fischer is a former junior player returning to the club and is a classy player, Tom Caulfield also returns from Mypolonga. Ricky Hunter & Tom Bascomb have left & Vaughan Noonan will probably not play, but these losses have probably been covered. Andrew Purchase, Hayden Thorpe, Shane Agelis & possibly Shaun Walker all have class to the Lameroo midfield, although Billy McNeilly will be a big loss in defence if a shoulder injury keeps him out early in the season.

Should be a close game with Lameroo to come out in front.

Karoonda v Pinnaroo

Karoonda have lost Mark Corrie with Brodie Chinner & Nick Zander not playing at the present time. Jackson Koch has come in to fill a key position while Danny Walker, Jarred Woodward, Matt Pfeiffer, Wayne Luckett & Clint Warhurst will add depth to the A Grade side. Josh Rudiger will lead the ruck with Zakk Bullard, Corey Knight & Ben Quinn in the midfield. Daniel Thiele, Jarred Graetz, Andrew Smithson & Eli Koch form a solid defence and should provide opportunities for rebound.

Pinnaroo have lost Ryan Nickolls, Chris Hughes & Anthony Lippis to the Riverland but have recruited Brad Cook, Matt Kennewell, Sean McIvor & Simon Reeve. The best recruit is likely to be Brad Sheridan returning after a year overseas. Ty Bennetts will build on a strong 2012 and Alex Keogh will rack up the possessions in the midfield. Wade & Chad Nickolls will control the rucks as they have for a long time.

Karoonda at home should start the season with a win.

BDT v Peake (Tintinara)

BDT have some player losses but have filled some of the gaps with good recruits in Matt James, a key position player, Chris Butler & Scott Huddlestone. There has been an exodus of big men with Ty McKenna, Kevin Kock & Hayden Schilling all leaving in the off season. Jarred Sampson has also gone home while Shane Binns is not playing & Ben Hooper is in doubt with injury.

The midfield will still be a major hurdle for other clubs to overcome with Josh Keller, Josh Richardson, Clint Richardson, Lachlan Richardson, Patrick Barrett & Jarran Crabb all capable of playing forward as well.

Peake have recruited well with new Coach Sam Mahoney bringing in Trevor Rigney, Gabe Phillips, Michael Baker & Shane Heinrich. Kym Markwick returns to assist Tom Carter & Gareth Diprose in defence. Jason Dikkenberg is a more than capable ruckman with Kieran & Bryce Jaensch strong contributors in the midfield.

Player losses may hurt with Pat Casey, Rick Berling, Travis Carling, Lachlan Wilson and Trent Wingard all missing from the 2012 line up.

BDT look like they will still be a dominant force in 2013 and will account for Peake in Round 1.

2013 SEASON PREVIEW

17 April 2013

Border Downs Tintinara

BDT have lost players, but will still be the measuring stick in 2013. The big
man department has taken the biggest hit with Ty McKenna, Kevin Kock &
Hayden Schilling leaving. Jarred Sampson has returned to the West Coast,
Shane Binns is not playing and Ben Hooper is in doubt with a back injury.

Scott Butler, Matthew James & Scott Huddlestone come in to offset some of the losses. The midfield is still capable of winning enough ball & kicking goals to remain a force in 2013.

Karoonda are without Mark Corrie who has returned to Victoria while Brodie Chinner & Nick Zander are not playing at the moment.

The depth should be better with Jackson Koch, Danny Walker, Jarred
Woodward, Clint Warhurst, Matt Pfeiffer & Wayne Luckett likely to have an
impact.

It is hard to replace the quality of the 3 players missing and will require a
consistent effort from all to repeat last years effort of playing in the Grand
Final.

Ben Grieger returns to Lameroo from the SANFL Eagles in a major boost for 2013. Former juniors Scott Fischer & Tom Caulfield return along with recruits Jarred Thorpe and Jacob Ryan. Mark Benham will return after missing 2012 with a knee reconstruction.

Vaughan Noonan, Ricky Hunter & Tom Bascomb will be missing from th 2012 line up & Billy McNeilly has injured a shoulder in a trial match.

Lameroo look to have improved on the 2012 season

Murrayville

Trent Sporn has finally succumbed to a knee injury and been forced into
retirement while 2012 captain Nick Rees is coaching elsewhere.

Clint Gates, Seb Moroney, Sam Mader, Ali Vessali are new recruits but the
biggest impact may be the return of Drew Crane after a year off as he is capable of kicking 100 goals for Murrayville.

Murrayville also look as though they will make a push up the ladder in 2013.

Peake have recruited well with coach Sam Mahoney, Trevor Rigney, Michael Baker, Gabe Phillips & Shane Heinrich all quality players and Kym Markwick returning to strengthen the defence.

The problem is the losses from 2012 – Pat Casey, Travis Carling, Rick Berling, Lachlan Wilson & Trent Wingard who were amongst the best players last season. Not sure if there is enough depth to push for a finals spot if the top players can be held in check.

Pinnaroo

Ryan Nickolls has gone to the Riverland while Chris Hughes & Anthony Lippis have also returned to the Riverland.

Brad Cook, Matthew Kennewell, Sean McIvor & Simon Reeve have been
recruited from Amateur League with Brad Sheridan a huge boost after returning from overseas.

Pinnaroo will improve but not sure by how much.
