CRYSTAL BROOK FINALLY BEATEN

It took 14 rounds, but finally a team has managed to put an end to the winning run of Crystal Brook. The team to do it was bottom placed BMW, who led from start to finish to take a 33 point victory at Booleroo Centre. Kendrick McCallum and Damien Smith were best with Jordan Arthur kicking five goals and Andrew Milne four. For the Brookies, Shane and Cameron Arbon were best. The win was BMW’s fourth for the season, but they still remain bottom of the ladder with two rounds left.

Southern Flinders have all but sown up second spot, thanks to a comprehensive 63 point win over Broughton Mundoora. Inaccuracy from the Tigers kept  the Eagles in it in the first half, but the third term decided the issue when the visitors added 6.6 to 2.1 to lead by 43 points with a quarter to go.  Matthew Woolford and Ben Brown were best for the Tigers, who had 11 different goalkickers. For Broughton Mundoora, Lee O’Dononhue was best with Mark Horner kicking four goals (45 for 2008) and Matthew Gale three (60 for 2008)

At Orroroo, Jamestown/Peterborough led all day to upset the homeside by 10 points. For the Magpies, who snared their fourth win of the year, Nick McInerney and Chris Stacey were best, while for Orroroo, Brodie O’Dea and Tim Byerlee played well with Kirwin Moore kicking five goals.

This week BMW and Orroroo clash at Booleroo Centre, Jamestown/Peterborough hosts Southern Flinders at Peterborough and Broughton Mundoora travel to Crystal Brook to play the top side.

Cam McCallum  was in fine form up forward, kicking six goals while for Orroroo, Liam O’Dea and Will Bennett (3 goals) were best. Crystal Brook had to work hard to keep its unbeaten record, with a 15 point home win against Broughton/Mundoora. The Eagles jumped out of the blocks, adding 6.1 to 2.1 but the Brookies fought back in the second to regain the lead at half time by 8 points, thanks to a 6.4 to 1.2 term. In the end Crystal Brook just had enough class, outscoring Broughton/Mundoora 9.5 to 8.4 in what was a good game. For CB, Jason Cousins was best while Keagan Brinkley kicked six goals (30 for 2008) in a top effort. For the Eagles, Matthew Gale kicked five (46 for 2008) with Nicholas Edwards best.

At Gladstone, Southern Flinders maintained third spot with an impressive 87 point win over Jamestown/Peterborough. Things were tight in the first term (6.1 to 5.2) before the Tigers broke away in the second to add 6.5 to 2.2 to lead by 32 points at half time.
