WINS FOR TIGERS, BROOKIES AND MAGPIES

Southern Flinders continued its unbeaten run with NAFL with a comfortable 29 point win over BMW at Wilmington. The Tigers were off to a good start adding 5.4 to 0.1 in the first term and were never headed making it 6 on the trot. Brett Ballantyne and John McKenna were best while Rhys Stansbridge kicked five goals. For BMW, Corey FInlay and Kendrick McCallum were best.

Orroroo headed for Jamestown in search of their first win of the season and started well leading Jamestown/Peterborough at quarter time by 13 points. But the Magpies hit form in the second term adding 8.4 to 2.0 to put them 27 points clear at half time. They home side went on with the job in the second half to record a 46 point win. Best for the victors was forward Greg Farr (5 goals) and Bernie Kelly, while for Orroroo, Matt Anesbury and Josh Clark were best

At Mundoora, Crystal Brook ended the Eagles three game winning streak beating them by 36 points. The Brookies didn’t make the most of their chances in the first term kicking 4.9, and only led by 6 points at half time but lifted a gear in the last two quarters to add 12 goals to 7 to win by 36 points. For Crystal Brook, Matthew Coates and Nathan Lambert were best while Josh Gale slotted home five majors. For the Eagles, Daniel Baker and Nick Hewett were best.

This week, should prove rather interesting because with Southern Flinders three games clear in top spot and four others are on three wins, there could be some jockeying of positions on the ladder leading into the break on the long weekend. Crystal Brook hosts Jamestown/Peterborough, Southern Flinders play the Eagles at Mundoora and Orroroo will chase their first win when the are visited by BMW

SOUTHERN FLINDERS MAKE IT FIVE FROM FIVE

Southern Flinders continued their superb start to the season, making it five from five after a 15 point win over reigning Premier Crystal Brook at Gladsone. The Tigers kicked straight early adding 5.0 to 2.2 in the first term for a handy lead. Crystal Brook fought hard in the next two quarters and only 9 points separated the sides with a term to go. The Tigers added 3.1 to 2.1 in the last term to secure the win and a two game advantage on the ladder. John McKenna and Brett Ballantyne were best for the victors, while for the Brookies, Jack Cousins and Adam Noonan were best.

Broughton/Mundoora moved into second spot with a resounding 64 point win at Orroroo. The first term told the tale as  the Eagles added 5.5 to 1.0 to set up an early lead. Orroroo fought hard in the second term but were overwhelmed in the third as the Eagles added 6.3 to 0.2. For Broughton/Mundoora, Nick Hewett and Brady Puddy were best while for still winless Orroroo, Matt Anesbury and Josh Clark were best.

At Jamestown, BMW defeated the homeside by a solitary point in a low scoring affair. The Magpies had an early lead before BMW added 4.4 to nil in the second term to lead at the main break by 16 points. BMW only added one goal in the second half doing enough to secure their third win of the year and a share of second spot on the ladder. BMW’s best were Dylan McCallum and Simon George, while for the Magpies, Chris Stacey and Bernard McInerney were best.

This week, the unbeaten Southern Flinders travels to Wilmington to play BMW, the Eagles host Crystal Brook at Mundoora whilst Jamestown/Peterborough host Orroroo.
