ALL TOP FOUR SIDES WIN HEADING INTO FINALS by Lawrie Colliver
It was business as usual for the YPFL top four, with all sides recording wins in the last week of the Home and Away competition. Bute had a tight match with the Southern Eagles, eventually winning by 11 points at Yorketown. Hayden Cock kicked six goals to finish the season with 68. The Crows will head into the match with confidence after beating Ardrossan by 61 points. Wes Farley was best, kicking six goals to finish second behind Cock with 52. Moonta finished in third spot thanks to their 32 point win over the Cougars. Ricky Mackereth and Paul Lindsay were best, while for the Cougars Todd Twelftree and Luke Doecke were best. Moonta has beaten the Magpies on two occasions this season, in Round 3 at Pasky by 45 and at Moonta in Round 12 by 19 points, so it should be a interesting match down at Yorketown on Saturday.

Bute has all but wrapped up the YPFL minor Premiership after a 32 point win over Paskeville at Bute. Shaun Hasting and Damien Adams were best for the Cougars, with George Davies kicking four goals, while for Wallaroo, Glenn Bretten and Adam Whittaker were their best.

Round 16 Wrap by Lawrie Colliver
With two rounds to go, Bute and Paskeville are set to battle it out for Minor Premier honours. Both are on 22 points, next week the teams clash at Bute and this should decide who has August 23 off, the first week of the finals. In the final round Pasky hosts Wallaroo while Bute travels to Yorketown to play the Eagles, who themselves will need to play some good footy to stay in the five.
Bute had to work quite hard to overcome Ardrossan, as they trailed early before winning by 58 points. Chris Langford (7 goals) had a day out for the Roosters, while Ashley Nourse kicked four with Andrew Moritz in the better players. For the Roos, George Rowntree and Mark Mueller were best with Matthew Schulz kicking four goals and Greg Wheare three.
Meanwhile Paskeville were too good for the CMS Crows, winning at Minlaton by 35 points. The Magpies were on fire in the second term adding 6.0 to 1.5 to open up 39 point lead at the main break. Ben Watkins kicked seven goals while Stuart Daniel and Brendan Ramsey were named in their best. For the Crows, Jared Sampson and Jared Poulton were best.
Moonta’s top two chances took a nosedive, as the Bloodhounds were too good for them at home winning by 27 points. The margin flattered the Demons, who trailed by 8 goals at three quarter time, falling to their second loss in a row. For Kadina, who need to keep winning to make the finals, Matthew Neuman (4 goals) was best along with Joel Phillips and Josh Lawson (4 goals). For the Dee’s, Ricky Hunter (3 goals) was best along with Nick Dobrovolskis.
As expected the Southern Eagles defeated the CY Cougars at Maitland, the margin of victory 31 points. Brad Coles and Jacob Selfe were best for the Eagles while the Cougars best were Andrew McNeil and Luke Doecke.
This week is another important round, Bute host Pasky in a possible Grand Final preview, the Crows and Kadina face off at Minlaton in a game that could decide fifth spot, Wallaroo and the Cougars meet – the loser almost certain to gain the wooden spoon while Moonta will look to end a two game losing streak against Ardrossan. The Southern Eagles have the bye and will be anxiously watching the outcome of the Bloods and Crows clash, given they have Bute in the final round to contend with. If Kadina loses it will take the heat off a bit, given the Eagles have a good percentage.

EAGLES AND ROOS SCORES UPSET WINS -- ROUND 11 wrap
The topsy turvey nature of the YPFL continued on Saturday with two surprise results, most notably the Southern Eagles win over Moonta. Fresh from their win over Bute, the Demons went into the game favourites, but were poor in the first half, adding just 1.4 to the Eagles 11.8. A far more even second half occurred, but the damage had been done and the Eagles were home by 55, grabbing their fifth win of the seaon. For the Eagles, Jack White and Matthew Redman were best with Sam Barlow kicking 4 goals to take his seasons tally to 38. For the Demons, Nick Blight and Todd Winstanley were best with Mark Aldridge playing a lone hand up forward kicking six goals
In the weekends other upset, Ardrossan had a two point away win at Kadina. The Roos had a comfortable lead at half time of 27 points, but the Bloods fought back well in the third term, adding 8.1 to 4.2 to narrow the gap to just 4 points at three quarter time. In the last quarter the game could have gone either way, with both sides adding 4 goals each, but in the end the Roos did enough to hand on for just their second win of the season. Their best were Mark Mueller and Scott Teakle (four goals) while for Kadina Damien Ziersch (four goals) and Mark Obushak were their best.
Wallaroo nearly caused upset number three of the round, losing by just two points against the Crows. The homeside kept themselves in the game by kicking accurately for goal, trailing by 7.2 to 7.9 at the last change. The Bulldogs could only add 2.8 in the last term to 2.3, as the Crows hung on for the 5th victory of the season. Best for the Crows were Sam Mumford and Damien Bennett, while for Wallaroo, Matthew Grillett and Jacob Coleman were their best.
At Maitland, Bute had to work hard for its 67 point victory over the Central Yorke Cougars. The Roosters had a comfortable first half leading by 34 points, before the Cougars showed some fight to add 5.0 to 2.3 to get it back to 19 points with a quarter time. Sadly for the homeside, they ran out of gas, with Bute putting the foot down to add 9.8 to 2.2 in the last term to run out easy winners. For Bute, recruit Andrew Moritz played well as did Sam Trengove, with Stewart Wehr kicking six goals. For the Cougars, Shaun Hasting and Brock Oliver were best.
This week, Ardrossan visits Edithburg to play the Southern Eagles, Bute go to Stansbury to play the CMS Crows, Kadina host Wallaroo and Paskeville goes to Moonta in what should be the match of the day.

YP FOOTY KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND......April 1, 2008
Another year of YP footy gets underway on Saturday with the reigning premiers, Central Yorke taking on Paskeville at Maitland. The Cougars have lost a number of key players from last year including Ben Gunning and Brad Vassal and have a new coach, Gavin Moore who will have the busy job of taking charge of both the A & B grade. Paskeville have also lost Sam Daniel (Henley) and Ben Abela from last year, but should still be around the mark. Andrew Crowell will be available for around 5-6 games in a reduced role due to his role working off-field with the Adelaide Crows. The Magpies have recruited Zeb Kenny, the brother of Boyd, while Dylan Beinke from the Port Magpies has committed for the season. Ben Watkins will coach the club again, the club managing to keep Leighton Wilksch on the park for another season.
Moonta plays Bute, with the Demons welcoming back 2005 Premiership coach Justin Zwar back into the role. Rick Hunter returns to the club from Nuriootpa, Jason Hokianga is back after a knee reconstruction and Todd Winstanley is back in the fold, having played a SMOSH last season. Josh Elsworthy is also back and the rumour mill suggests that Matthew Oliver, gun forward from Waikerie will turn out as well. Time will tell on that one. The Demons only real loss is last seasons Best and Fairest winner, Will Sansbury. The Roosters have a new man in charge, former Crows coach David Polkinghorne, who brings with him sons Nick and Damien to bolster the squad. Outside players are Broadview on-ball duo, Andrew Moritz and Ash Nourse.
Kadina hosts the Southern Eagles, the visitors expected to be a big improver in 2007. The Bloodhounds however have lost around 8 players, including David Westbrook and Shane Adams (retired). Ben Waller and Josh Wilson will still be there and are expected to be the backbone of the side.
Wallaroo and Ardrossan could well struggle again this season. The Bulldogs have a new coach in Shane Dunstan, the team were well beaten in a trial game last week by BSR. The Blues will again be coached by David Dolleguy and will be pleased to welcome back Josh Schulz from Adelaide. Like most sides that battle a bit for numbers, the Blues will need a lucky run with injury to stay competitive.
The CMS Crows have the bye and welcome Jared Poulton from Port Adelaide and Jared Sampson (CY Cougars) to the club for the new season. Troy Clements will be coaching and the club should be another to improve on their 2007 form.
