TUMBY MAKE IT FOUR FROM FOUR

Tumby Bay stays unbeaten after 4 rounds on the Great Flinders Footy League, but were made to fight for the points this week by a determined Lock outfit. Lock actually led at quarter time by a goal 4-3 to 3-3, before the Blues got going in the second term to lead by 22 points at the main break. Lock had their moments in the second half but couldn’t make any headway as Tumby ran out 44 point winners. For Tumby, Chris Prime bagged six goals to now have 29 for the year, Paul Jefferson and Brian Coad were best. For Lock, Andrew Heath and Scott Beard were best.

Ramblers and Eyre United were involved in a high standard game which saw Ramblers only ahead by 3 points at the last change. Andrew Crettenden kicked six goals and was in the best for Ramblers along with Matt Forster and Corey Fitzgerald, while Martin Baillie kicked 6 (18 for 2009) with Jordan Telfer and Damien Evans named best.

At Cummins, United Yeelanna triumphed over Cummins Kapinnie in a low scoring game by 17 points. The Cougars could only manage 2 goals in the first half but battled on well in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 5-5 to 3.6 but it was not enough. Bryce Breed (3 goals) and Brock Jolly were best for United Yeelanna, while for the Cougars, Brad Hazelgrove and Seth Meyers were best.

PRIME BAGS 8 IN OPENING ROUND FOR TUMBY

RAMBLERS START PREMIERSHIP DEFENCE WITH A WIN

Tumby Bay’s Chris Prime started the season in fine style with an eight goal haul in the opening round of the 2009 Great Flinders Season. Prime who had a stint at Norwood, has kicked over 100 goals in the past two seasons (131 in ’08, 150 in ’07) and was the difference in the sides, helped the Blues to a 46 point win over United Yeelanna. The Blues had a comfortable lead at half time of 23 points, but United fought back well in the third term to get within 8 points. The last quarter was all Tumby as they added 7.1 to 0.5 to run out comfortable winners. Apart from Prime’s effort, Jarrod Kemp kicked three goals while David Butler and ex-Sturt on-baller Michael Curtis played well. For UY, Bryce Breed kicked four goals and was in their best along with Matthew McLachlan and Aaron Little

In other games, the Cougars were too strong for Eyre United, winning by 104 points at Ungarra. Sam Ness had a day out kicking eight goals in a BOG display. Martin Baillie (6 goals) and Jordan Telfer were best for Eyre United. Reigning Premier Ramblers defeated Lock by 27 points, leading from start to finish. The first half saw Ramblers establish a 29 point lead, the teams scoring 7 goals apiece after the main break.  Tysan Mickan and Shawn Fitzgerald were best for Ramblers, while Andrew Crettenden (four goals) and new coach Simon Pedler (three) played well up forward. For Lock Gus Glover kicked five and was best with Matt Mellor and Damien Kelly also playing well
