KEITH CROWING FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW — from Terry Willoughby

Keith have won the KNTFL Grand Final for the second year in a row after having spent the previous 25 years in the wilderness. Opposed to Naracoorte who had lost only once for the year, Keith used their physical strength to advantage and forced errors in the Demon’s game. Kicking with the aid of a strong breeze Naracoorte wasted many opportunities by attacking the wrong side of the ground and with not much direction. Keith managed 3 goals against the wind including one after a free kick was reversed and they only trailed by 6 points at quarter-time. They got right on top in the second quarter through Paul Makin who was marking everything that came his way and forwards , Tom Redden and Jason Snajdar were providing strong targets near goal. Naracoorte scarcely had a winner in any position and became rattled in the third quarter, giving away silly frees and 50 m penalties. Keith’s better disposal in the third also frustrated any attempt by Naracoorte to get back in the game and they trailed by 31 points at the last change. Keith continued to dominate with Makin, Luke Skoblyk on the ball, Jason Smith at half-back and Damien Smart across the centre doing all the damage. Tom Redden finished with 5 goals and Jason Snajdar 4 and Keith were never in danger. It was a disappointing end for Naracoorte who had been on top all year. They managed a couple of token goals but went under by 51 points. Their better players were unable to exert any influence on the game although Matt Gill, Nathan Smith and James Dixon who managed 3 goals tried hard
